Week of August 9, 2024
Socially Grounded Vikings
October is Bullying Prevention Month and is a time when each grade will receive explicit, grade-level specific, principal-led lessons where students will learn to:
- Recognize when bullying is happening
- Report bullying to a trusted adult
- Refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or to others
- Be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying
This is hard, heart work for our students as they are immersed in the daily ups and downs here at school. Students will also bring home simple, fun activities called Home Links that will help our caregivers understand what our students are learning about at school. They will also give students another chance to practice skills and to open up dialogue at home.
👀 Student Health Education: Caregiver Opt Out 👀
The Illinois State Board of Education's Instructional Mandates includes specific requirements for Health Education subjects that must be provided for students. Our lessons, whether delivered by a classroom teacher or an outside provider (ex: Victor Pacini or Lurie's) will be age and developmentally appropriate. ISBE also offers clear guidance that caregivers may opt out of instruction in some of these areas.
What is covered for my student's grade?
The form below includes general information about what is covered at each grade level (Kindergarten through 8th grade). If you DO NOT want your student present in class when this topic is addressed through a specific lesson delivered by a teacher or outside provider, please let our staff know using the form below. Only complete this form if you DO NOT want your student present in class when the topics/standards are explicitly covered. This form will be open until September 20th.
