Gateway Regional Community Newsletter September 16, 2024
Principal's Message
I want to provide you with an update regarding the ongoing investigation into the social media threats made against Gateway Regional High School last Sunday and Thursday nights. Upon learning of the threat on Sunday, the school immediately contacted the Woodbury Police Department, which began a comprehensive investigation. This investigation remains ongoing and now includes the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Gateway Regional is fully cooperating with law enforcement, and we will continue to assist in any way we can. Additionally, we are working with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI to organize an Internet Safety Night in the near future to help educate our students and community about online safety and awareness.
We understand the concern and anxiety surrounding these threats and want to assure you that they are taken extremely seriously. The safety of our students and staff always remains our top priority.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support.
Student IDs
Students have received an ID and a lanyard. The ID includes the student's name, PowerSchool ID, bus number, and grade, making it easier for us to ensure that everyone is where they need to be. If a student forgets their ID, they can borrow a duplicate for the day. iI a student loses one there is a $5 cost for a new ID.
Students should have their ID around their neck at all times with a Gateway issued lanyard. IDs should not be in a student's backpack, hand, or in a pocket. Thank you for cooperation.
National Hispanic Heritage Month
This month, Gateway is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively (hispanicheritagemonth.gov, 2023).

Junior Firefighter Program
At Back to School night, we were joined by some fantastic firefighters who were promoting the Junior Firefighter Program.
Did you know you can get trained to be a firefighter starting at 16? We have had several brave and motivated students complete the training prior to graduating. If your student would like information, reach out to any of our four towns or contact Gateway's Guidance Department.
Kudos to you all for training to protect your community and thank you for your service.
