Looking Forward: Let's Go!!
This Month:
August is jam-packed with back to school dates: please also refer to the attachment on a FB post as well as the link embedded. We are thrilled to welcome your child(ren) back for the 24-25 school year! Please note that you will receive individual communication from teachers letting you know the time for your child's classroom night.
You can find our school supply lists at Walmart and on our website. If you need assistance with school supplies, please reach out to us. Also of note, please be sure to pay your child's tech fee. This is $25 and can be done either through your parent portal or you may come in and pay with cash or check.
FIRST DAY NOTES:
1. There will be NO lunch served on the first day of school.
2. 1st-6th grade will attend Wednesday, 8/14 for HALF day- 8:00-11:30
3. 7th and 8th will attend Wednesday, 8/14 ALL day- 7:40-3:10
4. Kinder students attend for ONE half day session that week- please sign up with Mrs. Brule.
Safety Information:
You will see that we have a beautiful new sidewalk to make walking safer for our students and families. In addition, just a friendly reminder that there is to be NO PARKING in the fire lane. Also, for pick up, please pull to curb for pick up, rather than blocking traffic to wait for your student in the second lane. This will help to keep students safe from crossing through lanes of traffic as well as assist in keeping the traffic moving and not backing up so far. Thanks for your help with this.
Key policies to and information for review:
Please know that you may access our handbooks online- both the elementary and the middle school handbooks are on our website and were attached in the online registration. If you would like a hard copy, they are available in the office.
Dress Code:
August typically brings HOT weather. Please be mindful of shorts and shirts. While we are no longer 'measuring' with finger tips to the side, we still require all private body parts to include the back and stomach to be covered. Particularly, please remember that we do NOT allow spaghetti straps and students who wear crop tops need to wear a shirt under it or over it, or they will be asked to call home for a different shirt. Shorts must be long enough to fully cover the bottom even when sitting. Only middle school students (7th and 8th graders) may where make up. Finally, we are finding that long fingernails, particularly artificial nails impact students ability to complete work accurately and efficiently. Please be mindful of this.
Attendance Policy:
Parents get 8 days to call students out, for sick or any other reason. After that, all absences either need a doctor's note or will be counted as unexcused. Ten unexcused absences result in a truancy referral. You may call 719-276-6052 to call out your child. **CHANGE for this year: doctor's notes may only be turned in up to TWO WEEKS after the student returns from an illness.
Please have your child at school whenever possible. We can't teach them if they aren't here. :) A child is considered chronically absent (whether excused or unexcused) when they miss 10 present of their school days- that is only 2 days/month. It adds up quickly. In addition, accumulated tardies also count toward unexcused absences and truancy. If you find you have difficulty getting your schools to school or on time, we want to support you and help to problem-solve. We appreciate you!
Cell Phone Policy:
Just a reminder that cell phones need to stay silenced/off and in backpacks at ALL levels. If we see/hear cell phones, we will confiscate them to the front office and the parent/guardian will need to come and pick them up. If this occurs more than twice, we will need to schedule a meeting to problem-solve.
Please note that smart watches will be treated like cell phones if students are sending OR receiving texts and calls with them.

We are so excited for this year! Last year we ended making a year's growth in both reading and math as measured by the Star Reading and Star Math assessments. We are so excited to get after it again this year! Lots of great learning to look forward to for our students and staff this year! Together We Make a Difference and together we will grow!
District Strategic Plan
As you may have seen, the district, through the work of a committee composed of staff, families and community members, has worked to put out strategic plan with identified areas and goals that we as a district will be working toward. CES will be spending time identifying how we will specifically and directly work toward these goals as well. I'm so excited for the possibilities this year!
