2025-26 Enrollment
It’s hard to believe that we are already gearing up for enrollment for the 2025-26 school year! As we move forward with our district-wide processes, please note that we are transitioning to a new email address for all enrollment questions, which is enrollus@k12.memphis.edu. Please direct any and all enrollment questions to this new email inbox.
Additionally, please note that an Intent to Return form will be shared with all current families in early December, so we are aware of your family’s plans for the 2025-26 school year. No action is needed at this time!
SAVE THE DATE: HOMECOMING 2024
It's officially homecoming season! University Schools has once again been invited to watch and to participate in the University of Memphis' annual homecoming parade. This year, the parade will take place on Friday, October 25, at 4pm. Additionally, the University of Memphis’ Student Activities Council is planning to host several more events on and off campus during the week of homecoming, including a family friendly drive-in movie night at Malco Summer Drive-In on October 22nd!
Please note that Campus School will dismiss the day of the parade at 2pm, and University Middle School and University High School will dismiss at 2:30pm, to help avoid the increased traffic and the parade queue, as well as to allow as many families as possible to attend the parade together! If your child attends the ELRC, you will be receiving further communication directly from the school administrative team (post Fall Break) about how your family can participate in parade events.
Please stay tuned for more information regarding Homecoming week festivities, which will be shared after Fall Break!

ELRC (PreK)
Reggio 3 Classroom
Supervising Teacher: Mrs. Molly
Assistant Teachers: Emily Wilson and Karsen Neal
Community is a vital part of our Reggio 2 classroom, and we have strengthened our community by doing collaborative activities, exploration, and playing with our new friends. The children began to wonder about communities outside of our classroom, so we started to talk about our communities at home. Children brought in their family photos to share with the class and to introduce the members of their family. We learned that there are many types of families and that every family works differently. We talked about our parents, siblings, grandparents, and family pets. We welcome our families into our class community and cannot wait to continue to grow our community.
Campus School (K-5th Grade)
Center for Applied Earth Sciences and Engineering Research (CAESER) Third Grade
This month, Campus School third grade had a visit from the Center for Applied Earth Sciences and Engineering Research (CAESER). As students rotated through the third grade science class, they had the opportunity to learn about the water cycle as they made water cycle friendship bracelets with CAESER’s Lucinda Scrivener, read about the water cycle with a STEM ambassador, and completed an interactive notebook activity with the classroom teacher.
STEAM Night
This year marked the 10th anniversary of Campus School STEAM Night! This event happens annually each Fall. This is a community-building evening celebrating all things Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. This year, the event was literacy themed. The theme was ‘Once Upon a Time at STEAM Night’. Each classroom was filled with a community partner. The community partner planned a session that tied in their focus area to STEAM, but also connected the room to a kids’ book! Students who entered the building were given a bookmark. As students went from room to room, they collected stickers with book characters on them. Novel Book Store was even on campus during the event to sell the STEAM-related books. Food trucks Eat at Erics and Ben and Jerry’s were on-site to serve up delicious treats for our students and their families, too.
On behalf of Campus School and the STEAM Committee, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for our volunteers’ participation inCampus School STEAM Night. Their creativity and dedication to planning engaging sessions made the event a success. We truly appreciate the time they donated and the creativity they brought to match our literacy theme for this year. Their involvement enriches our community and inspires our students. Providing exceptional opportunities for all of our students to learn and explore is one of our goals as we work together as a school community to defy the inequities in STEM education. Without our community members’ unique perspectives, energy, and commitment to our young people, this STEM event would not have been possible. Our partnership with our community partners is so incredibly valuable to us. We hope everyone enjoyed their evening at STEAM Night, and we are already excited for next year!
Brain Unit
Each grade-level at Campus School devotes time at the beginning of the year to learning about the brain. Content is scaffolded so that learning builds on itself year to year. Kindergarten explored the parts of the brain through literacy. First graders learned about the parts of the brain. Second graders learned about learning styles. Third graders examined how animal brains vary from animal to animal. Fourth grade made “brain caps” and explored in detail the functions of the parts of the brain. Fifth grade completed an analysis of the history of football helmets and engineered football helmets for eggs. Additionally, Third, fourth, and fifth graders participated in a guest lecture series with University of Memphis Department of Psychology professor Dr. Helen Sable. Students convened in the Playroom to learn about how scientists study the brain, how animal brains compare, and how to keep brains healthy. Additionally, students got hands-on experience analyzing animal and human brains.
Careers on Wheels: Tiger Talks with the Memphis Fire Department
As a STEM-designated school through the state of Tennessee, our school has a responsibility to create career- centered learning opportunities. This year, Campus School is continuing with the Careers on Wheels Tiger Talk series. This series of guest speakers is for kindergarten and first graders. Each month there is a different ‘career on wheels’ highlighted. These guest speakers visit each class as a whole group. For September, we highlighted the career of firefighters with Memphis Fire Department. Having a firefighter visit is incredibly important, as it helps the young students understand the role of community helpers in keeping us safe.
When Memphis Fire Department brought the fire engine to the school, it created an exciting and memorable experience for the children. They were able to see the equipment up close and learn about fire safety in a fun way. This not only builds their knowledge but also inspires them to appreciate those who serve our community. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with a vital part of our community.
Thank you to Memphis Fire Department Engine number 18 for coming to Campus School and sharing with our students. Go, Tigers, Go!
Great Tiger Bake Off: 5th Grade PBL Project
Campus School fifth grade students explored chemistry in the kitchen this quarter. Students explored matter and its interactions in the classroom. Then, students picked one common food recipe, and identified the components of the recipe. Students identified, analyzed, and observed. Students identified the physical properties of matter in order to explain the phase changes between solid, liquid, or gas.
In addition, students attended a “being there experience” at the Campus Recreation Center Kitchen to complete a kitchen chemistry lesson. During this "Being There Experience," students explored the chemistry of baking cookies. Fifth graders were able to analyze a cookie recipe, create their own cookie recipe, then mix together and bake their cookies. This experience not only taught physical science, but also gave students the opportunity to have hands-on experience in the kitchen and learn about health and oven safety.
Fourth Grade is Shakin' Things Up
Dr. Moran from the Center for Earthquake Research and Information visited Campus School in September to present to fourth graders. Connected to their Problem Based Learning project, students learned from this guest speaking event. Dr. Moran presented information on the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812. He also explained what earthquakes are and the effects related to them using items such as a slinky and shake tables to show earthquake effects. Dr. Moran partnered with the fourth grade team five years ago to build this PBL lesson plan. This project has now become a tradition in fourth grade. Dr. Moran always brings fun energy to the classroom, and we are so excited for him to partner with us each year.

Student Spotlight - Bake Sale for St. Jude
Several Campus School students showed their Campus Tiger Pride by hosting a bake sale on Saturday, September 21st. In spring of 2021, Caleb, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and was sent to St. Jude. He underwent 17 rounds of chemo and had his humerus replaced. While he was told he was cancer free in December of 2021, he has had three recurrences since then and had surgery each time to remove a mass from his lungs x2 and from his chest wall once. His family has always participated in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend but while he was in treatment, they started a team in his honor. Team ‘Caleb Hammer Strong’ has been fundraising since 2021 and started a bake sale in 2022 to raise money in his name. Each year, the event has gotten bigger and bigger and this year the team raised over $2,500 for St. Jude. Several of their neighbors and friends help them host the event each September, which is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. There were so many Campus School families and teachers stop by the bake sale.
To publicize the event, students created flyers to pass out at school. These students flooded the hallways at morning drop off sharing fliers with classmates, teachers, and parents. This bake sale was extra special because the proceeds of the sale benefited the Team Caleb Hammer Strong’s St. Jude Fundraiser. During the bake sale, all of the proceeds were donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The bake sale included homemade treats, sno cones, Gibson’s donuts, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and so much more. A huge tiger shout out to these tigers for making such a positive impact on the community.
Caleb is a freshman at UHS and little brother, Luke is in 3rd grade at Campus School. Their co-hosts attend Campus as well: Sam (4th) and Rainer (1st) Partee, and Mercy (3rd) and Margot (1st) DeWaters.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Did you know that October has been named Cybersecurity Awareness Month since 2004? Cybersecurity Awareness Month was created to help individuals protect themselves and their confidential data online. This year, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released the theme “Secure Our World.” We, at University Schools take Cybersecurity into account for all our student and faculty devices, accounts, and password requirements. Here are a couple of reminders for students to help keep them safe, while online:
- Logout of your device when not in use, so your account Gmail, drive, and other Google applications stay safe.
- Protect your personal information at all times, and never share any confidential credentials with others.
- Watch for phishing emails. Phishing attacks use emails, text, and websites that appear to be from trusted organizations. Be careful when clicking on attached links sent via email. When in doubt, reach out to the organization to verify that the email came from them.
If you are interested in learning more about programs and initiatives that promote Cybersecurity Awareness Month, click here.
