Welcome to the Patriot Press Newsletter. This weekly publication is created by the CCA High School Publication class; it will contain vital information for you as you navigate the 2024-25 CCA school year. If you would like something published in the newsletter, please email stownsend@clintonacademy.org and we will add it. Newsletters will go out every Monday.

On this Day in History: October 21st
In 1797 the USS Constitution was launched.
In 1805 the Battle of Trafalgar took place. It took place at Cape Trafalgar in Spain. Britain had 450 losses and 1,250 hurt. The allies had 4,400 losses and 3,300 hurt. Britain won the Battle of Trafalgar. They defeated the French and the Spanish.
1959 the Guggenheim museum in New York City opened

October Character Trait of the month is Joy
Students at CCA are focusing on Joy in the month of October. This week I asked Collin from 9th, Kaitlyn from 8th, and Haylee from 4th what Joy means to them. Collin said that joy means you are filled with happiness from the Lord. Kaitlyn said that joy means you have happiness through everything. Last but not least, Haylee said that joy means you are really happy and crazy for Jesus. The joy of the Lord is not dependent on circumstances, but rather comes from knowing that God loves, forgives, and empowers people. People can experience the joy of the Lord through prayer, scripture and the Holy Spirit. --Sophia
Senior Spotlight: Audrey
This month's senior spotlight is Audrey Foster. Audrey is the daughter of Brett and Libby Foster. She has two sisters Maggie and Teddy. Audrey has attended CCA since her freshman year. Audrey participates in basketball, volleyball and soccer. Her favorite sport outside of school is softball. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her friends, family and working cows. Her favorite Bible verse is Zephaniah 3:17, “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Her favorite CCA memory was Mrs. Foreman’s English class sophomore year. Audrey has two dogs, Duke and Trixie and two horses, Toby and Spice. Audrey’s favorite food is tacos and her favorite drink is iced coffee. She enjoys listening to country music as well as upbeat Christian music. Audrey's plans after high school are still up in the air, but she plans to continue her job at Four Filles Mercantile, and see where the Lord leads her. --Maggie
CHS Hosts Career Fair for Juniors & Seniors
On October 16th, CCA juniors and seniors attended the college career fair at Clinton High School. Students were able to get information from their desired college, trade school, employer and military branch while walking around the cardinal gym. Some of the schools in attendance were University of Missouri, Evangel, State Fair Community College, Missouri State University, along with several trade schools and military branches. The career fair is an annual event to help students start planning their future after high school. --Lilly

Joy Devotion
This week's devotion about Joy is from “The Glorious Table” and the article is called: “Created to choose joy,” which is based on Bible verse: Philippians 4:8 NIV, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.”

Class Spotlight: 8th Grade Bible
Allie observed 8th grade Bible with Mr. Campos last Wednesday. When she walked in students were playing a review game. They were reviewing their Bible unit, spelling words and vocab. Students were in two teams; boys vs. girls. They answered questions about what they learned in that particular unit, and were asked to spell certain spelling words. Students wrote their answers on white boards, and if they got the answer correct they could throw a paper ball into a trash can for a certain amount of points. After the review game students began working on their chapel program.
Survey Says:
This week we surveyed 64 CCA students to find out if they would rather wear fuzzy socks or slippers? Fuzzy socks won with a total of 43 votes while slippers only had 21. Fun fact: the longest time anyone has gone wearing slippers without taking them off was 23 straight years! –Maggie
Chapel
Chapel on Friday was opened with worship by the Praise Band. Pledges and prayer was given by students from the sophomore class. Jess from John Brown University was the speaker for chapel. She talked about prayer and showed us one way to pray. We learned about ACTS prayer, which stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. She went through each one and talked about what they meant. Afterwards she prayed about adoration and shared some verses about it. We then had a minute to pray to ourselves and pray about thanking God for who He is. We continued with each of the other three acronyms for prayer, and had a moment of prayer after each one. On the last one, Supplication, we shared what we're going through to the people sitting next to us and prayed over each other. We closed in prayer, and Mrs Hyke asked the volleyball team to lead us in the school song. Afterwards JH was dismissed for FCA, and everyone else was dismissed to class. This week remember to pray and thank God for all He's given you, think about your friends and family and what ways you can pray for them. --Allie
Happy Birthday Students & CCA Staff
This week we want to wish these students a very happy birthday: Draiden in 1st grade will celebrate on the 21st, Ryder in Pre-K has his birthday on the 23rd, and Marlee in K-5 will also celebrate on the 23rd. --Lilly
Volleyball and Soccer News
Soccer Action:
On Monday, October 14th, the varsity boys soccer team traveled to Independence to play in the MOKAN Soccer Tournament. The Patriots were the 4th seed going into the tournament and found themselves playing Center Place Restoration School, the 5th seed. Halfway thru the first half, Centerplace scored; it was 0-1 at halftime.
Collin scored for the Patriots early in the 2nd half to tie the game 1-1; however, the Eagles scored 2 more goals throughout the second half, which made the final score 1-3. With the loss, the regular season came to an end, but CCA is excited to take on the state tournament this week in Joplin. --Brooklyn
Volleyball Action:
On October 18, 2024 CCA varsity volleyball played Plaza at home. They won both sets. The first set score was 25-18 and the second set score was 25-19. Audrey had an amazing block during the game followed by Clara’s outstanding spikes.
On October 19th, CCA hosted the MOKAN Conference tournament at the Benson Center in Clinton. The Lady Patriots faced Eldo Christian in the first game; it was closer than anticipated; however, CCA was able to win in two sets. The second game was against Plaza Heights and CCA won in two sets. The championship game was CCA vs. Center Place Restoration School. The game was over in two sets and CCA fell short. Clara earned her 1000th VB “kill” at the tournament, and the Lady Patriots were MOKAN regular season conference champs and received 2nd in the MOKAN tourney. Congratulations on a great season! The state tournament begins Thursday in Joplin; good luck Patriots! --Kynlee

Senior Fundraising
Our 2025 CCA Seniors are raising money for their senior trip which is partly a mission trip and partly a fun trip. They will be going to southeast Georgia to work in a food pantry, and Christian camp for foster children.
This year, our seniors also have an opportunity to go on CCA's very first out of country mission trip to Belize. Money raised will first go towards the Senior trip to Georgia/Florida but we have hope that if enough money is raised it will cover some of the cost to their Belize trip.
Orders have been placed for the Laundry Soap fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who supported our seniors by purchasing.
CCA Seniors also sell homemade cookies every Thursday morning! Students love this! Just $1
The CCA Seniors will have a Yard Sale in November. Mrs. Hyke will send out more information later but please fill free to save and donate your yard sale items to them to sell!

FBLA
FBLA is the largest business Career and Technical Student organization in the world. Each year FBLA helps members prepare for careers in business and business-related fields through leadership development, academic competitions and educational programs. All high school students have the opportunity to participate in FBLA. CCA advisor is Tara Dull.
The CCA FBLA club had a meeting on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. The sponsor for this year is Tara Dull, she has a son, Easton, in 7th grade and she works at GVMH. She has a lot of background in business and participated in FBLA when she was in school.
FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. CCA high school students will have the opportunity to compete at the district competition in February at UCM. Each person that competes can only compete in 3 events. Two different types of events are available: Objective Assessments or tests and presentation. Each competitor can only compete in two presentation events. We then talked about how to fundraise for FBLA and we elected officers. The President is Hannah, Vice President is Colten, Chaplain is Logan, Co- Chaplain is Parker, Treasurer is Clara, and Secretary is Kennedy.
StuCo
Student Council is offered at CCA for 5th & 6th grades, Junior High and High School students. Students who were interested in being in student council filled out applications for membership and turned them in two weeks ago. This week members were announced. Congratulations to Clara, Audrey, Kennedy, Colten, Hannah, Maggie, Emma, Carissa, Brooklyn & Allie who were chosen to represent the High School group, and to Brynn, Kalynn, Kaitlyn, Micah, Caroline, Mayme & Carson who were chosen to represent the Junior High group.
High School had their first meeting of the school year on Thursday, September 26th from 3-4PM. Students elected officers and discussed dates for Lumberjack Club, Pep Rallies & Winter Formal.
- The first Pep Rally will be at 1:20PM on October 23rd; parents are welcome to attend.
P-PAC
CCA's performing arts club is sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Neal. It was first started in the 2023-24 school year and was a big hit among CCA students! Practices will be on Mondays, from 3:15-4:30pm in the CCA Art Room. This club is open to any CCA student who would like to join. There is no cost.
