PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
Dear Boulder Creek Families,
As principal of Boulder Creek School for the past eight years, I could not be more proud to belong to a school community that is dedicated to intentionally developing young leaders. In today’s world, we are inundated with information about who to be, what to do, and how to live. At Boulder Creek, our staff is committed to teaching ways to learn not just what to think about, but how to think. We are teaching how to manage priorities, focus on goals, and be a positive influence in our school. That’s what The Leader in Me is all about. We started 2023-24 by dipping our toes into learning about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The beauty of these concepts is that they assist students with their success in school, but more importantly, they assist students, staff, and families with success in all aspects of our lives. As we move into the future years, we will continue to grow in our leadership skills. We can’t wait to bring our parents and families into the fold to learn right along with us!
To our 8th graders leaving us, remember and live the 7 Habits…
Habit 1: Be Proactive - The Habit of Personal Responsibility
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind - The Habit of Personal Vision
Habit 3: Put First Things First - The Habit of Personal Management
Habit 4: Think Win-Win - The Habit of Mutual Benefit
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood - The Habit of Empathetic Communication
Habit 6: Synergize - The Habit of Creative Cooperation
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw - The Habit of Daily Self-Renewal
As always, bringing our families together as one Boulder Creek Family is a huge part of our why. We will continue this work and so much more in 2024-2025. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of 2023-2024, and have the most wonderful summer! And always remember, every day is a good day to make it a great day!
All my best,
Tina Croes

Encouraging our Students ...
to SHOW COURAGE!
A NOTE FROM THE PARENT CLUB
The Boulder Creek Parent Club would like to encourage students to thank their teachers in their own special way during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10). The Parent Club will be treating our BC teachers and staff to lunch on May 7th to thank them for all the amazing support they provided to our children this school year.
OPEN HOUSE
OPEN HOUSE - May 23rd!
Open House is always that time of the school year when your child's classroom is open for you to come and see some of the incredible learning that took place as well as memories that were made throughout the school year.
Open House will be on the evening of Thursday, May 23rd. Grade-level spans will be open at different times in order to accommodate our families who have multiple children at Boulder Creek. See the flyer above for more information. This flyer will also go home with students as we get closer to the Open House date. We all look forward to sharing the great things that happened at Boulder Creek this year!
GO SLOW IN THE PARKING LOT AND IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Please remember that we have students and parents crossing the parking lots in both the front and the back. Please proceed very slowly and cautiously. Do NOT pass vehicles that are stopped in front of you on Springer Drive or in the parking lots unless there is another lane in which to do so. This is not legal and it is not safe. Thank you.
In addition, please remember to slow down as you enter and exit the neighborhood from Churn Creek and other busy roads. Boulder Creek is located in a residential neighborhood, and we always try to be respectful of our neighbors. We have had complaints from residents on Whistling, Springer, and Spaniel that vehicles are driving too fast. This is dangerous for our neighbors and our children who walk to and from school. Please slow down.
GRADUATION
We are looking forward to celebrating the class of 2024 very soon! We will be back at Simpson University's Gym again this year. Our 8th-grade families should be on the lookout for a great deal of 8th-grade-specific communications coming home over the next month.
Boulder Creek's 8th-Grade Graduation will take place on Wednesday, June 5th at 6:00 p.m. All spectators must have a ticket to enter. 8th grade parents will be sent an email on Friday, May 10th with Ticket Request information. Ticket requests will be accepted from May 10th-20th.
We are excited to celebrate the Class of 2024!
IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY
May 1st: No new checkouts for those with late books
May 17th: No new checkouts
May 24th or Teacher Communicated Deadline, whicher comes first: All overdue books or payments due
Overdue library books will need to be returned or paid for if they are lost. Final report cards of students with missing books may be held until the library bill is reconciled. In addition, some classroom field trips and end of the year activities hold the requirement of clearing library bills, textbook returns, and Chromebook costs. Please take care of these outstanding responsibilities as soon as possible.
2024-2025 TEACHER REQUESTS
Teacher requests are not required. Boulder Creek Staff carefully considers every student's needs when making class placements. While Boulder Creek is moving forward with accepting teacher requests for 2024-2025, please keep in mind that teacher requests are taken into consideration but are not guaranteed. There are many other factors that must be considered when building balanced classes. In addition, sometimes a combination class is necessary depending on the enrollment numbers at any given grade level. Students placed in combination classes are recommended by their previous teachers. These classes offer wonderful learning opportunities for students.
Please click HERE (this link will only be active May 4th-8th) if you wish to complete and submit a teacher request form (teacher grade-level assignments are subject to change). A teacher request is not necessary for middle school teachers as we have only one teacher per subject matter in middle school. We are a large school and as you can imagine, building classes is a huge undertaking. Therefore, any requests made outside of the teacher request window will not be considered. All teacher request forms must be submitted by Wednesday, May 8th at 4:00 p.m.
A FEW YEARBOOKS LEFT!
We will have a few extra yearbooks when the order comes in at the end of May. If you missed the pre-order period and would still like to purchase a 2023-2024 yearbook for your child, you can come into the office and have your name placed on the list. You must pay ($40) for the book at the time in order to reserve. There is a limited supply. The extra books are first-come, first-serve, so don't delay!
7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE
Many of you have asked, “What are these ‘7 Habits’ my child keeps talking about at home?” It’s a great question! Every day your children are learning the 7 Habits framework. These are tools and skills for developing into young leaders. If your kids are talking about the Habits at home, that means these helpful tools are sticking, even beyond the classroom! Celebrate this with them! Below are highlights and conversation starters for Habits 4-6 (1-3 in March Bear Facts).
Habit 7: SHARPEN THE SAW
The 7th and final habit is all about Sharpening the Saw! It's like giving ourselves a tune-up to stay balanced and refreshed. Your child is learning the importance of taking care of their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Just like a saw needs sharpening to work effectively, great leaders understand the need to invest in self-care to thrive.
Habits at Home - Conversation Starters:
TK-1st: What made you smile this week?
2nd-3rd: Where is your favorite place on earth?
4th+: Which activities do you do that make you lose track of time?

WHAT IS TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN?
2024-2025 REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW
Welcome to Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at Boulder Creek!
California has made Transitional Kindergarten (TK) universally available (although not required). The curriculum and approach in TK are designed to bridge the gap between preschool and elementary school, providing an extra year to acquire kindergarten readiness.
Children who turn 4 years old by June 2, 2024 are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Note: Students who turn 4 between between June 3rd and September 2, 2024 are considered Early TK (ETK). ETK students may be enrolled in a TK program depending on available space and readiness.
Children who turn 5 years old on or before September 2, 2024 are eligible for Kindergarten.

PARENT PORTAL LOG-IN
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning of the year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please call our school's office at 224-4140 or email our Student Services Clerk, Kensey Jones, at kjones@eesd.net. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
