Kiker Elementary Newsletter

January 28, 2025
Message from the Principal
Kiker Families and Caretakers,
Throughout our last week of January at Kiker, I am excited to celebrate the continued growth and success of our students. I also wanted to share that Kiker was recently celebrated at a district Principals' meeting for our outstanding attendance. This means that not only are our students here to learn and grow, but this year Austin ISD is recognizing campuses with monetary rewards too. Due to our overall attendance rate and also our improvement from last school year to this one, we made the list to receive our award next month! These funds will go directly into the Kiker accounts to add to ways we can help and support students. At the elementary school level, attendance at school is definitely a team effort and we appreciate your dedication to getting your students to school each and everyday. Way to go, Comets!!
I also wanted to take a moment to mention the potential concerns from some of our families with regards to the recent developments in national politics. I would like to assure you that our priority is to create a safe, supportive environment for all students. No student or family at Kiker will be singled out or treated differently based on their immigration status. Last week Austin ISD families received an email from Superintendent Segura and I wanted to reiterate his sentiments that providing a "safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment is one of our most important responsibilities." Austin ISD has also "developed FAQs to help our families understand how the district is responding to any new policies that could impact our schools".
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions we may be able to help with.
Hope you all have a wonderful week,
Mrs. Abrams, M.Ed.

Library Volunteers Needed!
Our Kiker Life Skills class works on a variety of skills. One of their weekly activities includes recipe making! The kids (and teachers) have an awesome time making their recipes together. If you would like to contribute towards purchasing those ingredients and/or making a monetary donation, we have set up a system to make that easy for you to do!
Kiker Elementary collaborates with outside vendors to bring a variety of experiences to our after school program. They are all individual businesses. For that reason, specific questions about clubs, schedules, etc. should be directed towards them before contacting Kiker staff as they will have the most detailed information. You can click on the title or the graphic to the right to find out all of the details!
*A link to this document will also stay in "Popular Links" at the end of this newsletter throughout the year.
