A Message From the Principal - Here we go!
Hello, State Street Families!
It has been a fantastic start to the school year! We have had one of the smoothest starts to date! We appreciate all of our families for getting your students enrolled over the summer and coming to join us for Meet the Teacher Night. Boy, did we miss our STARS! We are also very excited to see new faces this year! The students have been working hard to learn our STAR Expectations here at State Street. We always kick off the start of the year with a "Boot camp" to help remind them of expectations or help our new students learn how we SHINE here at State Street. Next week, we will have our very first PTO meeting of the year in the library! See information below! One of our goals is to continue to grow participation and partnerships. So, we hope to see you there! We will also be kicking off our fall testing next week. Be sure your students get to bed on time and are ready to rock and roll when they come to school each day! This fall data helps us to know how they are performing and provide supports for interventions and/or enrichment opportunities. Finally, our overall goal and focus this year is on improving our attendance rate overall! So, we need your partnership to help our school achieve our overall goal of 94%! This year, one of the incentives for students who meet their quarterly goal will be to add some "flare" to their lanyard. All lanyards will be given to recipients at our very first assembly to keep and add to for the year!
We love our STARS and want to continue to find ways to help them SHINE!
As always, if you need anything, do not hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Paige Roberts
Welcome to our HOUSE!
State Street Elementary
2024-2025 Houses
Over the past few years at State Street, each student and staff member has been placed in a team or “House” to try and win the coveted House Party at the end of each quarter. Students can earn “Superstars” for their House by going above and beyond in a variety of ways: earning 50 All-Star Cards for their class, following the STAR Code during a Fire Drill, having the best class attendance for the week, etc. At the end of the quarter, we tally up all the Superstars to see which House comes out on top. Then, we have a party for the winning house! It is something we all look forward to each quarter.
As a staff, we really wanted to excite our students with some novelty to the Houses. Last year, our fourth grade students voted on new House names for our school. These names were selected to represent our Performing Arts Signature. In the coming weeks, our students will also vote on each Houses’ mascot.
We are so excited to introduce the new Houses to our State Street Community! Here is a quick description of each house:
- House: Allegra --> Character Trait: Strong--> Color: Black
- House: Harmony--> Character Trait: Trustworthy--> Color: Gray
- House: Rhapsody--> Character Trait: Acceptance--> Color: White
- House: Melody--> Character Trait: Responsible--> Color: Blue
Each class has their own House. Each grade level selected one of four confetti poppers. If their popper revealed black confetti, they were put into House Allegra. If the popper revealed Gray/Silver confetti, they were put into House Harmony. If their popper revealed white confetti, they were put into House Rhapsody. If their popper revealed blue confetti, they were put into House Melody.
Attention Parents:
This year, we are excited to invite you to our assemblies and will provide you with buttons featuring your child's picture and house. Our goal is to strengthen our community and involve all stakeholders, including families, in our program.
We are so excited to revamp our Houses and can’t wait to see the fun memories made!
Breakfast and Lunch for ALL Students!
All School Breakfast and Lunch meals are free in Topeka Public Schools for the next several years thanks to a grant that was submitted by Nicole Janke, our School Food service director.
Please be sure to also do the Free & Reduced School Meals Application (2024-25 School Year) so all our students can continue to get free lunches. Here is the free and reduced lunch application link: https://frapps.horizonsolana.com/welcome

Bus Routes and Transportation
Transportation-Expect delays the first two weeks of school as everyone learns new routines and procedures. Bus students will dismiss to go to the bus lines inside the school at 3:30 p.m. and then to the busses by 3:35 p .m. Most busses will leave the school each day at 3:40 p.m. if all students are loaded and ready to go safely home. Buses may be delayed at times, especially at the beginning of the year. We appreciate your patience as we all work to get our students to and from school safely.
It's important to know your child's bus route number. so you can get updates and track your child's bus. We encourage you to download the app, "Here Comes the Bus", to be informed of your student's bus pick-up and drop-off times. Check Synergy for transportation information too.
We strongly encourage parents to have their students begin the first day of school with the transportation they are going to use for the remainder of the year. This helps with building routines with our young children. It also helps us have accurate bus counts to ensure our routes are not over or under-crowded.
