ALC Newsletter
Assistant Principal Kari Varichak
Greetings ALC Families,
It’s hard to believe it’s already November. We have been getting into a good groove of doing school and we have a lot of things to celebrate. Nicole took a group of students on a field trip to Springbrook Nature Center. We love opportunities for off site learning experiences. So many students are making amazing progress through their courses and we have already had 5 students who graduated! Please continue to monitor progress through the credit checks, and if you have any questions, know that we are here to support so please reach out.
As we embark on Quarter 2, we have some fun opportunities. More students are starting the work experience course with Jenny DeMars to earn elective credits while working. The College fair is on Friday, November 1 on site at Fridley High School. Students will have many colleges to explore with on site representatives who are available to answer questions to get inspired and excited about their future. Jeremy from Know the Truth is here on Tuesdays, and Erika from Neighborhood Health Source is on site with us on Thursdays. Here is a site to learn a little more about Know the Truth - https://mnpra.org/. Below is a glimpse of how Erika supports our students.
A few reminders about school logistics. The school day is from 8:10am - 3:00pm. Students must be present as we are not an online school. We encourage everyone to engage in cell phone use during transition times and lunches. When we are in class, the focus is on learning and progressing through coursework. Thank you for your support in sharing the same messages at home. Please reach out if you have any questions as we continue our partnership in supporting your student(s).

Voting Information
Dear Families and Staff,
I hope you are doing well as we enjoy the beautiful fall season in our community. As you may know, there will be two questions on the ballot for the Fridley Public Schools on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
The first question is a voter-approved operating referendum of $424 per pupil unit. The second is a $30 million facility bond referendum to address our deferred maintenance needs. You can find more information on the district’s needs and the proposed solutions at www.fridleyschoolsreferendum.org.
We would like to provide some information on the several ways to vote in this election. Early voting is now available through the day before the election.
VOTE EARLY BY MAIL
One way to vote early is by receiving a ballot in the mail. You may request an absentee ballot from the Minnesota Secretary of State online or print an absentee ballot application, and your ballot will be mailed to your home. Your ballot includes a pre-paid return envelope, which goes directly to the Anoka County Elections Office for counting.
VOTE EARLY IN PERSON
Fridley Public Schools residents can vote early with an absentee ballot at the Fridley Civic Campus (7071 University Ave. NE). After submitting an Absentee Ballot Application, you will be given a ballot and can cast it in person that same day.
Early voting began on September 20 and will continue through November 4. For more information on this option, visit www.ci.fridley.mn.us/230/Elections.
ELECTION DAY VOTING
Voting precincts and polling locations are determined by your residential address. There are several polling locations within the Fridley Public Schools boundaries. For voting precinct and polling information:
Use the Minnesota Secretary of State Polling Place Finder: Visit www.pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us
Call Anoka County Elections at 763-324-1300.
Send an email to the Elections Office at elections@co.anoka.mn.us.
Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.
We appreciate the engagement of our community as we have worked to find the best possible solutions to our operating and facility needs in the Fridley Public Schools. We look forward to continuing this engagement right up to election day.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Brenda Lewis, Ph.D.
Superintendent
