πWhere is GATE taking us?
π February Standards
GS2 Students will develop creative thinking skills to generate products that will refine or challenge existing ideas using knowledge and materials in innovative ways.
GS3 Students will acknowledge opinions and ideas of peers and demonstrate their acceptance/ judgment and adapt their thinking.
π Curriculum
This month, students are refining their good sportsmanship practices. Students are engaged with one another playing games such as Ticket to Ride/Kingdomino /Scratch, in order to analyze the rules and develop strategic plays. They will be applying the SCAMPER strategy to modify the games and create a new version. Based on peer feedback, students will decide if their ideas were successful or if they need to adapt their thinking and adjust their modifications. These modifications can range from small tweaks to the gameplay to entirely new content or even to full conversions that transform the game into something entirely different. These gameplay modifications may adjust the difficulty level, storyline, settings, characters, and/or functionality to improve the performance of actions/tools or interfaces for better player experiences. Please encourage your child to try out more games at home in their free time. These games could be selected from card games, board games, and video games. Have fun gaming!
