Gahanna Lincoln High School
2024-2025
A Message from Mrs. Williams
As we approach the end of the first quarter this Friday, October 18, I want to remind you that this is an important time for students to wrap up any outstanding assignments, projects, and assessments. Finishing the quarter strong will set the tone for a successful rest of the school year.
Here are a few ways you can help your student stay on track this week:
- Check Grades and Progress: Encourage your student to review their grades and check for any missing assignments on the Infinite Campus portal. This is a great time to reach out to teachers if they need clarification or support.
- Set Priorities: Help your student prioritize their workload. Encourage them to tackle larger projects or assignments early in the week and use any available study or homework time effectively.
- Healthy Habits: Remind your student to get plenty of rest and stay organized during this busy time. A good night's sleep and a clear plan can help them focus and perform their best.
Additionally, please note that there will be no school for students on Monday, October 21, and Tuesday, October 22. Thank you for your continued support, and let's make sure our students finish the quarter on a strong note!
Go Lions!

Venereal Disease and Sexual Education Instruction
In accordance with Ohio law, the District includes venereal disease education as part of the health curriculum. As outlined in Ohio Revised Code 3313.6011, venereal disease education must emphasize that abstinence from sexual activity is the only protection that is one hundred percent effective against unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease, and the sexual transmission of a virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. As a result, the course material and instruction must do all of the following:
- Stress that students should abstain from sexual activity until after marriage;
- Teach the potential physical, psychological, emotional, and social side effects of participating in sexual activity outside of marriage;
- Advise students of the laws pertaining to financial responsibilities and potential consequences for the child, the child's parents and society in the event of unintended pregnancy;
- Stress that sexually transmitted diseases are serious possible hazards of sexual activity;
- Advise students of the circumstances under which it is criminal to have sexual contact with a person under the age of sixteen pursuant to section 2907.04 of the Revised Code;
- Discuss options for unintended pregnancies with an emphasis on adoption.
School Districts have the option of offering additional instruction beyond what is listed above,
and our District has chosen to do so by using the vendors and curricula listed below. In order for your student to receive this instruction, we require written permission from you as the parent/guardian.
PLEASE USE THE FORM BELOW TO GRANT PERMISSION FOR YOUR STUDENT TO RECEIVE THIS INSTRUCTION, OR TO EXCUSE YOUR STUDENT FROM THIS INSTRUCTION.

Beginning last school year, districts in Ohio have been navigating new legislation related to health and safety lessons that schools are required to include as a part of the curriculum. House Bill 123 and Senate Bill 288, as outlined in the chart below, provide instruction to students in grades K-12 on these topics.
We have developed our plan for delivery and have begun communicating with parents in preparation for instruction. There are many details related to both House Bill 123 and Senate Bill 288 and we wanted to provide clarifying information on both components of our curriculum.

Senate Bill 288 Instructional Materials - SPEAK UP and Second Step Crime Protection Unit
Both HB123 and SB288 require districts to provide families the opportunity to examine instructional materials and/or excuse their student(s) from taking part in the instruction.
For your convenience and due to a low response rate across the district, we have created this HB123 & SB288 Parent Opt-Out Form for families to use ONLY IF YOU WISH TO OPT OUT.
