Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Thank you students, staff, and families for supporting us these last two weeks through state testing. The majority of students have completed their testing and there are only a small number left who were absent or needed additional time on a specific test that will complete make-up testing this week. A special shoutout to Mr. Conrado Castro, Ms. Lynn Stephens, and Ms. Johana Moreno-Perez for ensuring testing ran smoothly.
I also wanted to thank our families again for their generosity during our Foundation's Challenge Course Fundraiser. With a week to go we are on track to meet our goal! The money the Foundation raises goes directly back to supporting our students. This Friday, May 24 all students will have an opportunity to participate in the Challenge Course through their PE classes.
I also want to remind families that Friday is a minimum day and students will be released at 12:44 PM.
Sincerely,
Melanie Kray
7TH GRADE EXPERIENCE WAIVER AND FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIP
Parents of 7th graders, in order for them to participate at the 7th grade experience at Rockin Jump Trapoline Park they must have a waiver on file and have a signed parent permission slip. The electronic waiver is accessible through your child's science teacher's Google Classroom. If you have not completed the form online yet, please make sure that is completed as soon as possible. Students are not able to participate in this event if a waiver is not on file. There are approximately 80 students who still have not completed the online waiver.
Permissions slips will also go home this week for parent signatures and must be returned to your child's science teacher. In order to participate in this activity your child must have a 2.0 GPA in scholarship and a 2.67 GPA or higher in citizenship based on P4 grades.
SIXTH GRADE CAMP: GROUP 2
Our second group of sixth graders heads off to camp the Week of June 3. Beginning next week we will have a special section in the newsletter for our our second group headed off to camp. Campers, the date will be here before you know it. If you have not done so already please make sure you have reached out to your sixth grade camp coordinator to share you bunkmate preference.
UPDATE ON HONOR AND PRINCIPAL HONOR CERTIFICATES FOR P3 AND P4
P3 and P4 certificates went out this week to students. There are a few students that will receive their certificates on Monday due to state testing. Congrats to all of our outstanding scholars!
The Pershing Challenge Course is a way for our students to participate in raising much needed funds for our school while also having the opportunity to win some great prizes and have some fun. Donations raised will be used to continue to support the teachers, staff and students of Pershing Middle School. If each family was able to raise or donate $25 we would reach our goal!
How it Works:
Visit the event website at: https://pershingmiddleschoolfoundation.rallyup.com/challengecourse24
Click on the “Students” tab or go to the “Student Center”, use the search box to find your student’s name and go to their fundraising page. You can cut and paste the page link to send to family and friends.
For every $10.00 your student raises in donations, they will earn 1 raffle ticket. Tickets will be placed in the prize boxes of their choosing at lunch the week of the all-school obstacle course on Friday, May 24th. The last day for donations to count for tickets is Friday, May 17th. Winners will be chosen after the event and announced in the Sunday newsletter.

Also a big congratulations to Teagan Samimi and Caleb Arenz for their performance at the San Diego Unified Middle School Wrestling Championships. Caleb won first place for his weight class. Great job Panthers!
And finally, if your child is planning on participating in high school sports next year SD Health has an opportunity available for students who are currently in grades 8-11 to get their sports physicals completed for the 2024-25 school year. Please review the flyer below for details.
6TH GRADE CAMP FOR OUR SECOND GROUP IS NEARLY HERE!
STUDENTS ATTENDING CAMP WEEK OF JUNE 3-7
Departure on June 3: Students should go to school at the regular time on Monday, June 3. Students will drop off their luggage in the designated luggage drop off area (west parking lot) before 8:00 AM and then head into campus and when the bell rings, students attending 6th Grade Camp will report to the auditorium. They WILL NOT go to their first period class. While in the auditorium, they will receive a few final instructions from staff and go through a verbal health check (i.e. no fever, illness, etc in the last 24 hours). The buses typically departs around 9:00 AM. Families are welcome, but not expected, to be there for the send off.
Luggage: Students may bring one suitcase and one bed roll (sleeping bag/blanket, sheets, and pillow). No backpacks. Please make sure your child's suitcase and bed roll are labeled with the luggage tags they will be provided this week. The luggage tag should have your child's name and the school's name. Place your child's bed roll in a large trash bag to protect it from the elements. We recommend packing an extra trash bag for your student's return trip. We will have extra luggage tags available in case your child loses theirs.
Medication: Students with prescription medication need to bring the medication to Nurse Kalish in the main office by Friday, May 31. Parents will also need to pick up their child's medication when students return on June 7. Nurse Kalish will have a table set up in the luggage pick up area where families can get the medication. Please DO NOT send any medications to camp in your child's suitcase.
Return on Friday, June 7: Students normally return from camp between 11:00-11:30 AM. Students and luggage may be picked up in the 6th grade turnaround parking lot on Friday. When the buses get close to campus a message will be sent to families.
