In partnership with our faculty and district town librarians, our Librarian, Ms. Harvey, has put together an awesome reading list for this summer! Students who read at least four books as noted will receive a certificate, a prize and a pizza party in the fall. Please click here to view/print the reading list, as well as the book tracker. Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
In just three weeks we will be back in school and settling into the school year routines. Between now and then we have a number of events and steps to take to be fully ready for the return of students on Tuesday, September 3.
Next week, the Nauset Public Schools will host new teacher orientation. Over two days, we will welcome new team members to the Nauset Schools. Here at the middle school we have a number of new educators who join our team after some members of our team retired or moved on to other opportunities. Please join me in welcoming:
Melinda Beatty, Guidance Counselor
Nancy Boutin, Special Education/ELA Teacher
Ruth Cohen, Reading/Literacy Interventionist
Jon Eramian, Science Teacher
Kari Flint, Science Teacher
Julie McMahon, ELA Teacher
Emily Porten, Special Education/Math Teacher
Monica Richard, Math Teacher
Jennie Ryan, Music Teacher/Choral Director
Colleen Smith, Spanish Teacher
On August 28 and 29, all Nauset educators are back in school. We will spend the two days getting our classrooms ready, building community, and some professional development too.
We invite all new students to Nauset Regional Middle School, including all incoming 6th graders and their parents/guardians to visit the school on Tuesday August 27 at 9:30am-11am. During this visit we will greet the new students and their families, tour the school, and end the morning in our cafeteria with ice cream.
During the first four days of school, we will have students run through their schedules and also do some community building activities.
This year, during the first week of school, we will distribute a Chromebook to every student in all three grade levels: Grade 6, 7, and 8. This is the first year that all students will have the same devices, as we complete our transition away from iPads to Chromebooks. In order for your child to receive their assigned Chromebook, you need to complete an online form. You can access the form using the following link: https://forms.gle/j4Yrd9LGe9Z548119. Please complete the form prior to the first day of school.
Each student will also receive a lock for their assigned locker at the school. Cell phones should not be brought to middle school. If parents/guardians elect to send their child to school with a cell phone, the phone must be off and stored in the locker during the school day. In advance of the school year, if your child has a cell phone, we strongly encourage you to turn off all notifications and remove all social media apps (Snap, Instagram, Tik Tok, etc.) These apps lead to distracted students, harm student mental health, and are not meant to be accessed by children as young as our middle school students. https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2023/05/23/surgeon-general-issues-new-advisory-about-effects-social-media-use-has-youth-mental-health.html
We appreciate your help. If we all work together, we can support our students and educate them on the safe use of technology, as we gradually work towards more independence for students.
We look forward to the new school year. The school looks great with new flooring replacing the older carpets in the 6th and 7th grade hallways. Those two wings of the school are brighter than ever.
Finally, we continue to make final adjustments to student schedules to keep balanced classes. As we learn of new students enrolling or students that have moved away, we do balance class sizes throughout August. This week we mailed a packet of information home to parents of 6th graders. If you have not yet received your letter, check in with us next week. We know that mail on the Cape can take some time to be delivered.
If you have not already done so, please download the Nauset App today. Over the course of this year, the app will be the primary method for getting messages and information out to the community.
Please see pdf attached below for ways that you can support our students and our school.
We are now on Facebook at Facebook.com/NausetRMS.
Enjoy the next three weeks of summer on Cape Cod.
