PRO: Perseverance, Respect, Ownership April 2025
Celebrating April – A Month of Growth and Creativity!
Spring is in full bloom, and April brings so many wonderful opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection! This month, our students are diving into exploring new ideas and project, continuing to showcasing their talents in and out of the classroom, and showing what they know on state testing.
We are so proud of the curiosity, kindness, and hard work our students bring to school every day. Thank you for your ongoing support in making our school community a vibrant and inspiring place to learn!
Wishing you all a joyful and enriching April!
Guest Speaker: Marc Mero
Students and staff were able to listen and engage with motivational speaker Marc Mero during a whole school assembly. Marc Mero is a retired professional wrester with the World Wrestling Federation (now the WWE), ring name Johnny B. Badd, who now travels all over the country to speak to students on kindness, writing down and achieving your goals, and focusing on positive relationships with family and friends. Students were highly engaged and teachers have been able to make intentional connections to his messages throughout the week. Thank you Marc Mero!
Dragon Shout Out
A HUGE thank you to Matt Shoup, with M&E Painting and Roofing and Pour Into People, for their sponsorship of Marc Mero, motivational speaker, for TMS Dragons. We are grateful for this experience and everyone loved the stickers, thank you!
Counselors Corner
Counseling News:
We recently wrapped up 6th grade counseling groups.
We’ll be starting counseling groups with 7th grade students this quarter. If your child is interested in participating in a group, the counselors will send you more information.
CMAS testing is quickly approaching - if your child is feeling anxious about standardized tests, please let us know so we can support them with anxiety management and test-taking strategies.
INCOMING 6TH GRADE FAMILIES:
For the Family Info Night on April 2 from 5:15-6:15 PM, families will enter Turner Middle School at the front/main entrance on the south side of the building. Once they enter, there will be a table with greeters who will hand a BINGO card to each student. The BINGO cards will have objectives on them, such as "find the Tech classroom." Families will be walking around the school, exploring it, and meeting teachers to hear about what they will learn in those classes next year. There will also be a table for the PTO, 5030 football, TMS clubs & sports, and our GT & Math Focus programs.
At 5:55 PM, we will have an announcement over the loudspeaker for everyone to transition over to the gym. Starting at 6PM, our principal and assistant principal will be speaking and there will also be a slide show looping in the background. As everyone enters the gym, there will be a place to turn in your completed BINGO cards to be part of a drawing for TMS spirit gear. If you need more time with a counselor, administrator, or other staff following this event, you are welcome to reach out to schedule a follow-up meeting.

8th grade Adventures
Your student will take the CMAS tests: Math, English Language Arts, and Science this April in 8th Grade. It’s important that students take the test for a few reasons. The Math, English Language Arts, and Science teachers use this data to determine student success and make changes in the curriculum for the next year using this data. Secondly, when students take the CMAS tests, they build endurance for longer tests. This will benefit them in high school on assessments such as PSAT and SAT.
Math, English Language Arts, and Science tests will be on the mornings of April 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th and 21st. Students will have one test a day in the morning and the rest of the day will be normal classes, including electives. Students can prepare for this test by eating a good breakfast on the day of the test, getting a good night’s sleep the night before, and making sure that their Chromebooks are fully charged.

Testing dates:
Grade 6-8: 4/7-4/15; ELA and Math
Grade 8: 4/17-4/21; Science
The Colorado Department of Education has the following link with for the 2025 CMAS Overview.
Things to note:
During CMAS testing, students are to report to their PRO class just like any regular day.
We will run a different schedule that supports creating the best testing environment we can for students.
The assigned testing room for a student will be for the duration of all assessments.
Once a student starts a test session, he/she is expected to complete this session. Please contact our testing administrator, Adam Kohn, if there is a day your student will need to be checked out early as this may impact an assessment.
After your student has completed his/her testing session, the expectation is to sit quietly or read a book. Please encourage your student to have a book, magazine, or reading material on testing days.
All electronic devices (cell phones, smart watches, MP3 players, gaming etc.) are not permitted in the testing rooms.
In addition, students will be asked to leave their electronic devices in their lockers or to turn in their cell phones/electronic items to the teacher before starting an assessment in each testing room.
Cell phones will be returned to students after ALL of the testing sessions for that day.
Please encourage your student to get plenty of rest, eat breakfast, and do their best during this assessment window. We appreciate your continued support during CMAS assessments, and we look forward to another opportunity for our students to demonstrate what they know and are able to do. If you have questions or concerns regarding our CMAS assessments, please contact Adam Kohn at adam.kohn@tsd.org.
