Rio Norte News - January 10, 2025
A Note From the Principal
Good Morning River Hawk Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season and I wish you all the best for 2025!
As we prepare to come back to school this Monday, please be sure to read the section below about class schedules as there were changes that had to be made in our master schedule. As phones cannot be used on-campus, it is important for students to write their schedule down in their Binder Reminder or somewhere handy for Monday.
If you had a student participate in Turkey Bowl, please enjoy the montage in the RioTV episode below (about 30 seconds in). All of the footage was taken by our own Rio TV students and a huge shoutout to Nabeel Mehdi, who edited the entire montage! We thank them and Mr. Ippolito for their dedication to our student news program!
Finally, our hearts go out to any and all affected by these horrible fires this past week. In Santa Clarita we know all to well how quickly things can change. Most of us have family members or friends affected in one or more of these fires. If your student is struggling with any of this and needs support, please let us know.

Active Lockdown DRILL this Friday
This Friday, January 17th, we will have an active lockdown drill. Previously, our drills have been educational in the advisory classroom. Now that students know what to do, we will practice going from an "active" situation outside of classes to see how quickly we can lock our campus down and ensure students know what to do should an actual event ever occur. The drill will take place some time prior to our lunch period and will be at a time when students are not in classes. Again this is just an opportunity to practice and assess what we have taught. Parents will receive an email reminder the morning of the drill.
Should you have any concerns about your student participating in this active drill, please reach out to your child's counselor by Wednesday.
Class Schedules and First Day Bell Schedule
Monday, January 13th, we welcome our River Hawks back on campus. The first day back is a regular A1 Schedule. Students start with period 1 and attend periods 2 and 3 after brunch and lunch, respectively. Second semester schedules were released on Infinite Campus this past Friday morning and parents should have received an email on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. about this. While some schedules stayed the same, many of our students saw their classes moved around due to several changes we had to make in the master schedule. We do not change teams or team teachers, but your student's class periods may have shifted, they may have a new P.E. teacher, and most will have a new elective teacher. Please be sure your student prints or writes down their new schedule, as they cannot use their phones on campus.
Click these links for instructions on how to view schedules in Infinite Campus:
Instructions for Students to view their schedule
Instructions for Parents to view their student's schedule
Please remind your student that elective classes are exploratory and changes will not be considered unless they have had the exact same elective previously. If this has occurred, your student should report to their counselor Monday morning in the library or at the start of the period they have an issue with. Any student that could not access their schedule can also go to the library Monday morning and the counselors will help them get their new schedule. Our apologies in advance, but because we are so impacted, students schedules cannot be changed back to their former schedule. Counselors will only be able to assist those with errors in their schedule. We appreciate your understanding and support in encouraging your student to try something new.
ID Card Scanning Continues
ID scanning continues to be a daily procedure for students to enter campus. On Monday, January 13th all students will need to present their ID card at either of our gates for entry. Please help by ensuring your student has their ID card ready for Monday morning. Replacement IDs are $5 cash in the library. Students who do NOT have their ID card continue to have a separate sign-in process.
Winter Dance and Dress Code
Winter Semi-Formal Tickets:
After winter break, tickets will go on sale for our annual Winter Semi-Formal Dance. See details in the flyer above and note tickets for this dance will NOT be on the webstore. DINNER will be served at this special dance. Student's tickets will be automatically loaded to their ID card, so they need that to buy the ticket and enter the dance. GROOVE PACK students MUST go to the ASB window to RSVP and have their ticket loaded to their ID card. All of this will help us ensure food for every individual that attends.
