Message from the Principal
We talk a lot about the programs and opportunities that we are building here for students, but you don't always get to learn about them in one place. This past Wednesday, I had the opportunity to share a presentation at School Committee, and I titled it, "If you haven't seen Bourne High School lately, you haven't seen Bourne High School." Our faculty and staff are working so hard to bring incredible opportunities to our students and to strengthen the academic experience of all students so that they are able to fulfill their plans after high school, whether that is college, career, the military, or industry training. Please take a look at this presentation to see our MCAS improvements and what's going on here at BHS. We are proud of our small, but mighty status, and connecting with each student to guide them toward personal and collective success.
Yours in Education,
Dr. Maguire

Hello families!
The ELA MCAS exam is quickly approaching. Grade 10 students will engage in the ELA MCAS in late March. Teachers are providing targeted intervention support and MCAS practice to students in class and in WIN. Last year, BHS outperformed a number of Cape Cod high schools, and students and teachers are working hard to improve over last year’s performance.
You can support your child(ren) at home by encouraging them to utilize the many online resources for MCAS practice. This website provides information about the MCAS exam, and this website provides links to practice question banks and practice exams.
Please remember for test days, students should get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, arrive at school on time, and bring necessary materials including a charged chromebook.
All grade 10 students will have an Infrastructure trial with their Chromebook on Monday, March 17th to prepare to sit for the exam.
Thank you!
Jessee Clements, Secondary Curriculum Director
Academics in Action
Biology Modeling
Students in biology class modeling translation which is the process of creating mRNA from a gene on a DNA molecule. It is the first step in making a protein called protein synthesis.
DECA Stocking the Wheelhouse
Students in DECA are working with Ms. Maurice to check out the Wheelhouse Vending Machine, which they have recently stocked with snack options that turn on for purchase after school. All non-food items are available for purchase at any time. Be sure to stop by if you're staying after and need a snack!
Conversations in Spanish
Mr. Pugh has pushed the desks to the back of the classroom so that students can focus on speaking and practicing conversational Spanish in small, flexible as well as full class groups. This shift in classroom setup puts the emphasis on speaking and listening proficiency.
Chemistry Creations and Aeronautical Models
Chemistry students made bouncy balls by reacting borax with Elmer's glue, which created a bouncy polymer that was fun to play with! Chemistry students also participated in a flame test lab, where they explored spectral emissions from a mystery sample that they then identified. The Aeronautical Engineering Senior Interns are also so close to completing the model airplanes that they've built from scratch!!
Attendance Matters
Just a reminder, you MUST be in school to participate in an after-school activity, a club, a sport, or an event, even as a spectator! Make sure you're here to be there, too!
NHS is hosting a Knock Down Hunger Event 3/14!
