Encourage Reading! It is the activity with the single BIGGEST impact on your child's academics. Whether it's

• bedtime read alouds,
  
• pass-the-book shared reading,
  
• a family book club,
  
• storytime for pets,
• a mini research project,
  
• or cozy blanket in the fort reading,

your child's time with "eyes on text" is so important to maintaining the growth they made this school year. Please, expect reading this summer!

Thurs June 27 READATHON 9am-6pm

If your child has an exuberant interest, a dedicated focus, or a hobby, you can use this as a HOOK into summer reading! Build a "book basket" of many genres, levels, and kinds of texts. The themes can be wide, like "sports" or "travel." They can also be specific such as "swimming" or "stars."

There are many excellent educational websites our district pays for. They can be accessed via Classlink. If you do not know your child's login information, email linsem@victorschools.org.

The primary website that lets kids read ebooks is Myon. It has books in Espanol, and the computer will read every book to your child if they choose.

Don't forget we have a Community StoryWalk posted on the fence along the little playground at the Primary School. Look for the green posters of the story When the sky Glows by Nell Cross Beckerman!

The engineering tricks of 5 different fort designs are shared in this lesson! Make sure your children are challenged by redefining which building materials and sites they can build on. Then make it miniature by building little "chipmunk" structures with natural materials they find on a hike!

Remember the great instructables.com website. Maybe some of the things there, like the marshmallow launcher in my link, can be of use in your Rube Goldberg Machine!

Rube Goldberg was a cartoonist who made cause and effect inventions that were WAY too complicated to do the simple task they ended with. Just as satisfying as a House of Cards or domino line, these wacky "mousetrap" machines are a fantastic rainy day activity.
