Sometimes your student will take a quiz in the OLS and won't get an 80% or higher (showing mastery) or maybe your student isn't 100% happy with their score. They can re-take it!! The OLS has 3 attempts built into most quizzes. Below is a video on how to find and retake unmastered quizzes. But, before giving it another try, please have your student review their previous attempt and see which questions they got wrong and why.

We will be working in the Liftoff portion of a program called Progress Learning. We are completing diagnostics in class and then you will be able to work in your Galaxy. Below is a video to help you navigate Progress Learning/Liftoff. You are expected to be working in Progress Learning/Liftoff for 20 minutes a day. Diagnostics MUST be complete in order to work in progress learning!

In Unit 3 are working with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of larger numbers. Students will need to understand the definitions, vocabulary and how to work real world problems of each processes.

ELA/Writing

This year in ELA, we will be:

• Reading a variety of more challenging texts of different types (books, newspapers and poems, for example)
• Reading for different purposes, such as to find information or for fun
• Focusing on elements of writing including style, structure and the author’s purpose for writing
• & so much more!

What to do at home

Read & Discuss: Explore different sources on a topic.

Write Together: Collaborate on a paragraph about your child's interest.

Daily Word Challenge: Pick a word for everyone to use each day. (https://www.nytimes.com/column/learning-word-of-the-day is a great resource)

We will be reading so many great stories and books in your classes and OLS lessons. Be sure to keep your curriculum materials in a safe and accessible place so you are ready to use them in class.

It is so important to get into the habit of reading for at least 20 minutes every single day! If you don't already do this, start today! Find books on Big Universe through the OLS or at your local library.

Here are some of the things we are learning about in unit 2:

• Measure and/or describe a physical quantity, such as weight, time, temperature, or volume, using standard units.
• Identify bulk matter (microscopic observable matter; e.g., sugar, air, water).
• Explain how energy can be transferred in various ways and between objects.
• Describe the different ways in which energy can be generated from one form of energy to another form of energy.

Students can connect with their classmates and teachers in the Zone! Students can connect with others through video, chat function, and audio. Additionally, the K12 Zone offers many activities for students, such as chess games, tic-tac-toe, library access, scavenger hunts, access to Stride ESports, and much more.

The zone will be open daily at 8:30am and 2:00pm.
