WEMS
Dear Emerson Families,
As we begin to wrap up the end of the school year, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude to everyone for such a wonderful year. There will be one more communication next Thursday for this school year!
As a reminder, if any of our 8th grade students will NOT be in attendance the last day of school, this needs to be communicated to the front office. You can call and leave a message on the attendance line (847-318-8110), or email em-secretaries@d64.org to alert them of the absence. Thank you for your help!
All the Best,
Tessa

Student Chromebooks
Summer 2024
Summer Learning Opportunities:
The goal of the District 64 1:1 Digital Learning Program is to provide tools and resources to our 21st Century learners. To this end, we provide every K-8 student access to a computing device and digital curricular resources throughout the school year.
To support summer learning opportunities, we are excited to announce that 2nd-7th grade students will take their Chromebooks home this upcoming summer. Please reference the D64 Software Application Subscriptions List to learn about what programs/resources are accessible to students to support learning over the summer.
Device Collection Overview:
- 8th Grade and Non-Registered Students: The Technology Department will be collecting devices only from students who are in the 8th grade or those students not fully registered for the 24-25 school year.
- 2nd-7th Grade Students: All students from 2nd through 7th grade will take their Chromebooks home over the summer.
Support and Security Measures:
District 64 is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students online. Here are some key points regarding the network and security measures in place, for your review:
- Securly Web Filter: Securly implements strict filters and monitoring to block and detect harmful content or behavior. This system remains active over the summer, ensuring continued protection.
- Student Access to YouTube: Student YouTube access is restricted to a "Strict Mode," which is the most restrictive access available. This access limits exposure to content deemed safe for minors and is utilized for educational purposes.
Family Resources for Device Management:
Students and families can watch this short video about Chromebooks expectations over the summer. We also encourage families to use the Securly Home app to monitor their child's device usage. Resources to help you get started with the Securly Home app can be found here.
Technology Support Plan:
Please be reminded of our 1:1 Digital Learning Technology Support Plan for the 2023-2024 school year, which provides protection for student devices over the summer. Should students need technology hardware support during the summer, families can submit a technology support ticket. Support tickets will be reviewed the next school day.
Junior Police Academy
The Niles Police Department Junior Police Academy is being offered to all Niles middle school students' ages 11-14 years of age. The academy will run Tuesday, July 16th through Thursday, July 18th from 8am-noon each day.

May S.O.A.R.S Update
This month in homeroom, students spent a lot of time talking about managing relationships and social conflict. This is the final unit of the Second Step Program. Below are the specific lessons taught along with questions to ask your student. Students continue to grow and learn the skills necessary to have success in school, get along with others, and prevent violence, bullying, and substance abuse. We hope that students take what they have learned during our extended homeroom time and use these skills outside of school in our community, especially over the summer months. Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
