FHS - On the Plus Side
(Week Ending Oct. 11th)
On the Plus Side
...is a simple reminder of some of the positive events that happen at Framingham High School every week. #flyerpride
Flyer Mediation Program
Twenty-five seniors, juniors, and sophomores participated in their first training with MetroWest Mediation Services. These student leaders are spearheading the Flyer Mediation Program, where students act as mediators helping to resolve low to mid-level conflicts among their peers. Staff from MetroWest Mediation will also supervise each peer mediation while providing additional mentoring and support to our student mediators. The Flyer Mediation Program serves as an alternative intervention aimed to reduce school conflicts and create a safer school community.
AP Environmental Science
Students in AP environmental science had a visit from Alex Daley-Clark from Lindblad Expeditions/ NatGeo. She came to see students dissect albatross boluses and talk to them about their upcoming environmental project. Albatross boluses are regurgitated indigestible material which contain natural material like squid beaks and rocks. In addition, they contain many pieces of plastic, which is a sad sign of the impact humans have on marine species.
Calculus Class
Calculus students solved and discussed problems with different partners around a big table with a Calculus “Dinner Party” The students rotated seats, introduced themselves, worked together, talked about favorite foods, and solved math problems.
Step-Up Mentoring
Step-Up to Excellence mentors and mentees went to find their way out of a corn maze! Some succeeded, some did not!
Environmental Science
In Applied Environmental Science, we have been studying corals, and the impact of climate change and other factors on the health of coral reefs around the world. To help us envision the reefs, we built different shapes of corals using LEGOs. Pictured here are encrusting corals, boulder star corals, staghorn corals and table corals.
Adapted PE
Mr. Delehanty is the new Adapted PE teacher at FHS. He has been building awesome adapted equipment to increase student access to different sports. This week the students used a pull-activated bat to play baseball. The students are loving it! Big thanks for Mr. D for the creativity!
Please Note
This is not meant to be a comprehensive list as we have so many great events happening at FHS.....each week different events, activities and groups will be highlighted.
