Chatham Elementary School Community Update

September 15th, 2024

Dear CES SHARKS & Friends,

With the start of Pre-Kindergarten classes on Monday, September 9th, we finally have all of SHARKS at CES. It was another amazing week at CES with learning and fun. Classes are working hard on setting routines and assessing needs. Everywhere you turn in the building, there are SHARKS working hard!

This week we hold our first SHARK Assembly of the year and Thursday is Picture Day at CES. Students are encouraged to wear their SHARK gear on Wednesday for the assembly.

There are lots of fantastic events going on in the community, so don't forget to check out the Community Events section at the end of this newsletter.

Welcome PreK Students!

Join the CES School Council

The Chatham Elementary School School Council is looking for members for the 2024-2025 school year. The school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of principal, parents, teachers, and community members. This important group has a role in preparing the school's improvement plan, and a role in shaping the school's achievement of the professional development and parent involvement goals.

This group meets 2-3 times a year. We welcome new and returning members. If interested or if you have questions, please reach out to Dr. Kelly at jakelly@monomoy.edu. Our first meeting will be Thursday, September 19th at 5:30 pm in the Media Center at CES.

SHARK Tickets

As part of our CES positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), SHARKS can earn tickets from staff members by simply following the SHARKS expectations. Tickets are collected in each classroom and once a week, our 4th-grade ticket collection crew counts and pulls winners from each homeroom. The winning students are invited to Dr. Kelly's office to choose a SHARK prize. SHARK tickets are just one of the many ways we celebrate being SHARKS!

SHARK Assemblies

One of our favorite events at CES is our monthly SHARK Assembly. Once a month our entire school comes together to celebrate our incredible community of learners.

This Wednesday, September 18th will be our first assembly of the year. We encourage students and staff to wear their favorite SHARK gear and be ready for an afternoon of fun as we recognize the class who earned the most SHARK tickets, find out our first clue about the Mystery SHARK, sing our school song, and celebrate SHARKS nominated for our Sea of Success!

Review Chatham Elementary School Handbook

The Chatham Elementary Handbook is the best source for all things CES. Please put aside some time before school starts to review the many policies and procedures outlined in the CES Handbook. All families are also asked digitally acknowledge they have access and have read the Handbook. You can find the Handbook and Signature/Acknowledgement site HERE.

Update your Aspen Information

To prepare for the start of the school year, we ask that all families take a moment to review the information listed in Aspen and make any needed changes.

This simple process ensures that we have accurate contact information for you.

Log into your Aspen account
Follow the workflow to review the information currently in Aspen, such as address, contact phone number, etc., and make any necessary changes
If you would like to receive text messages from the district along with our other communications tools (such as email and app), please ensure that your cell phone number is listed in the field reading ‘Phone number to receive texts’
Families will also be able to submit health information and authorizations for students
Please complete this process prior to the start of school on September 3, 2024
Please complete all information as fully and accurately as possible

SHARK Shout Outs

Thank you to the Chatham Fire Department and Chatham Police Department for their assistance during our evacuation drill on Friday! Our SHARKS did an amazing job!!

Thank you to all the parents and caregivers! We have had a great start to the school year and students have been arriving on time and ready to learn each day!
