Hello,

My name is Catheryn Logwood and I am the new Student Assistance Professional (SAP) at the Reardan School district. As an SAP I will be serving students for a wide variety of reasons, for the purpose of preventing substance abuse and other negative behaviors so as to assist them in being a more productive student and person. I will do this by offering support through individual assessment and counseling sessions, small groups targeted to specific needs of students, offering curriculum to classes designed to increase the protective factors against substance use, and other prevention activities.

I am a Reardan graduate and I am so excited to contribute to a community that has poured so much into my life. I have been licensed in the state of Washington as a counselor since 2009, and for the past 16 years I have been working in the capacity as a counselor both at UGM Anna Ogden Hall and at Partners with Families and Children.

NO SCHOOL the week of Nov. 21-25. We hope to see everybody for conferences on Monday and Tuesday. While at conferences, don’t forget to visit the book fair in the Elementary Library.

During conferences, please make sure you check lost and found for any of your students missing items. We have a large selection to choose from!

The PIE group is hosting a Father-Daughter Dance on Friday, December 2nd from 6-8 pm. Bring your Dad or special guest.

8th grade science students finished a unit on energy by constructing roller coasters and invited the elementary classes to visit and learn about energy.

This week in science class our 8th graders culminated their energy unit by teaching elementary students about potential and kinetic energy. Studies show that the best way to retain knowledge is to teach it to others. Thank you to all of the elementary students who came in to learn about energy from our 8th graders.

Our 7th grade science classes are learning to use microscopes by sampling their cheek cells, creating slides, and drawing replicas of their cells in their lab notes. This is the first time these students have worked with microscopes this year, and they are excited to learn about how a microscope works and the amazing things they can see with magnification. Seventh graders in Mrs. Hamilton’s Family and Consumer Science were able to cook this week! They made English muffin pizzas and breakfast burritos. Their favorite part was eating their creations after they cleaned up the kitchens.

Our WDFY (Washington Drug Free Youth) group has convened this fall to kick off their poster campaign. We had about 40 students at the first meeting and are expecting more to join–our wrestling and girls basketball teams had to leave early and so missed the meeting. Each student who came to the meeting this week received a vintage WDFY t-shirt to wear on Wednesdays. Our goal is to highlight the positive community “norm” of choosing to be drug and alcohol free.
