Lester Park School Newsletter - #19

Dear Lester Park Families,
It's been a fun and busy month here at school; the Thanksgiving-to-holiday-break season always flies by so quickly. We have enjoyed lots of special lessons and projects in our classroom and an adorable K/1 music program on Tuesday. This week, we are SUPER proud of our Lester Park Labs for raising a record amount of money for our Giving Tree project--they worked hard to bring in $3,500--this is $1,000 more than our typical amount and we are so excited about it! This project is such a special Lester Park tradition.
While this time of year is fun and exciting, it can also come with challenges. We have recently experienced an uptick in unkind and aggressive behavior at school. After the break, we will be doing some reminders and reteaching about what it means to be respectful, responsible, safe, and kind here at Lester Park. We would love it if your family could have conversations at home, too, about safe and appropriate ways to handle big emotions when they happen. This can be things like walking away, taking deep breaths, using a classroom calming corner, or asking an adult for help. One thing you can do to help is to brainstorm some solutions with your child so that they are prepared to manage their own big emotions, or help a friend manage big emotions if they notice someone having a hard time. Thank you for helping us with this!
We are wishing our community a safe and joyful holiday season. We hope all of our Labs have a wonderful break, and we can't wait to see them back at school in the new year!

The gentleman from the Salvation Army was amazed at how many toys were donated. We had to have a large overflow box, and both it and the original were stuffed!
Speaking of stuffed...the first year of the Cuddles for Courage was a big hit too! Several stuffed animals were donated for children who will be in the hospital.

Around $3500 was donated to this year's Giving Tree Project! That is a record!! Thank you to everyone who participated in this cherished Lester Park School tradition!
All of the trees and gifts were successfully delivered to the hospitals earlier today, and the staff and patients loved them!
There were 2 news crews there - WDIO and FOX. This evening you will be able to see clips on their newscasts of the Lester students delivering the trees and gifts!
