🐺 Weekly Howl 🐺
Huge congratulations this week to Ms. West, Ms. Rocco, and to all of our musicians who performed so beautifully at Thursday's Winter Concert! The musicians shared such joy, enthusiasm, and support for their peers and appropriately celebrated a job well-done. They played to a packed house - which had standing room only! Thanks to all of the families who came out, and for your patience, understanding, and kindness, even with the need for more chairs. Kudos to the Music Boosters, who made a lovely and welcoming entry way, and for all of their hard work in supporting music at WMMS. Thanks also to Ms. Kastanos and her artists for their delightful display of self-portraits and {]}. Perhaps my favorite part of nights like Thursday, however, is the generations that come together in celebration of music. From the return of alumni, to the grandparents, to the little baby siblings clapping, singing, and hugging their way through the night...it was a true delight for one and all.
This was an odd week for WMMS with a power outage during lunch time, or the tsunami warning Thursday morning, we are proud of our Wolves for their ability to remain calm and focused throughout it all.
Next week we look forward to hosting SSC/PTSA on Thursday evening. We will also be hosting an informational meeting for our SLAM program. SLAM means Student Led Anti-Racist Movement, you can click here for more information. If your student is interested in learning more, they can attend a meeting next Wednesday, December 11 at 1 pm. If they can't make that meeting, they can check in with Ms. Miller in Room 201.
Also happening next week...students will take their second iReady assessments for this school year. They will have two days to complete the reading diagnostic and two days for the math diagnostic. These assessments are vital for helping our teachers understand how to best support each student’s learning. We kindly ask for your support in encouraging your student to do their best on these assessments, as it provides us with the most accurate information to help them succeed.
In closing this week, we continue to wish you good health through this chilly weather.
Have a great weekend, Wolves!

ATTENDANCE LINE
When excusing an absence, families should call and leave a message on the Attendance Line: 510-317-5599. When leaving a message please state the student's name or ID #, the reason for the absence, and the name of the parent/guardian calling.
ABSENCE ERRORS

COVID Protocols (as of 1/29/24)
- Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication AND your other COVID-19 symptoms are mild and improving.
- Mask when you are around other people indoors for 10 days* after you become sick or test positive (if you have no symptoms). You may remove your mask sooner than 10 days if you have two negative tests at least one day apart.
- Avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe COVID-19 for 10 days*. Higher-risk individuals include the elderly and those who live in congregate care facilities.
- Seek treatment. If you have symptoms, contact a healthcare provider as soon as you test positive, especially if you are at higher risk for severe COVID-19.
Important Learning to be done!
In our efforts to curb tardies, we continue to enforce the following rules in order to promote an effective learning environment:
- 10/10 Rule: Students will not be allowed out of class in the first and last ten minutes of class. This is to ensure that they are getting set up for success, have the opportunity to write in their planner, and complete warm up activities. The last ten minutes ensure they get the homework and any last minute announcements.
- Teacher Dismisses the Class, Not the Bell: Students are often anxious to get out to break and transition into their new classes. Students need to remain seated until their teacher dismisses them. This will have the added safety benefit of reducing the number of false fire alarms as students have less access to the pull stations.
- Hall Passes: When students leave the classroom, they are required to have a current hall pass that marks the time they left and the location to which they are going.
While these are all procedures WMMS staff are working together to implement, reviewing them with your student will be very helpful. We thank you for your support.
