Happy New Year, KHS Families!

I hope you have had time to enjoy loved ones, reflect, relax, and recharge. I'm so excited to enter into a new year with our students as we embark on the second half of our school year. As we prepare for the winter weather, please make sure that you are signed up to get the SMS messages sent to your phone for any school delays or cancellations. I look forward to being in classrooms this second half of the school year to make memories with our students and sit with them as they learn and grow. As always, thank you so much for all you do to support our students and school community.

To start 2025, Kingston Community Schools is completing a strategic action planning process. Our committee is made up of the Superintendent, Elementary and Jr/Sr High Principals, Technology Director, Maintenance Director, three school board members, a parent and a student. The purpose of this strategic action plan is to identify what our students, staff, families, and community believes are our successes, what barriers we might have and what goals we will set and work toward as a district.

On January 14th, all stakeholders in the district will receive an email link to a 3-question survey created by our strategic action planning committee. If you are unsure if we have your email address, please contact the Superintendent's office. The questions included in the survey are:

1. What do you think Kingston Community Schools is doing well? (e.g. student progress, transportation, building/grounds, etc.)
2. What obstacles/barriers/challenges do you feel are in the way?
3. As we look to the future, what should be the district's top priorities?

Once you have answered each of the questions separately, you will be given the opportunity to rate the responses of others who have completed the survey. Your responses to the 3 questions, as well as your ratings of others' responses, will remain anonymous. You can come back as often as you'd like to participate and rate the responses of others. We encourage you to do so, as this will help us understand the most important areas to focus on for our Strategic Action Plan.

For the safety of our students, we are asking that you park in a parking spot and not along the building when you are picking up a student.

We are thrilled to welcome back our School Resource Officer, Mr. Western. We are so glad to see him feeling better and returning to our school community. Mr. Western is an important part of our team, and we know many of our students and families will be excited to see him back on campus. Please join us in giving him a warm welcome!

As we begin a new year and a new semester, remember this is an opportunity for a fresh start. Embrace the chance to set goals, work hard, and make this term your best one yet. Let's make it a year to remember!

As we continue to prioritize the success and well-being of our students, we are excited to announce the launch of our Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Program starting after winter break.

After reviewing data, we identified students who could benefit from additional support. These students have been paired with peer mentors who will meet with them weekly during Seminar. The mentors will assist with academic work, organizational skills, and building positive relationships.
