Message From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
September is off to a great start! The first pep rally of the year was a huge success. Thanks to our very own DJ, Mr. Coronado, the students enjoyed entertaining music along with dancing, a hula hoop contest, volleyball game, and of course, all things athletic. Go Bruins! The SBS band is now in its 6th week of formation. This elective is led by Mr. Balettie, Bishop Lynch’s Band Director. There is still time to join so if you have a 5th-8th grade student and want to learn more, please email me for more information. Shakespeare Dallas is in full swing. Students are learning the basics of acting and drama through theatre games, improvisation, creative movement, and theatre history. Clubs and organizations will be up and running soon now that school is in full swing.
This is a busy week for the St. Bernard school and parish community. Please take a few minutes to read the newsletter and mark important dates on your calendar. Don’t miss the Home and School General Meeting & Potluck Dinner on Thursday (9/19), Bingo on Friday (9/20), Carnival on Saturday (9/21), and the All School Student Mass on Sunday (9/22). I hope to see everyone at these SBS events. Your involvement and participation in these events is critical to their success. They provide a great opportunity for fun, fellowship, and shared experiences for our school and church.
Our first Coffee and Conversation is Wednesday, September 25th, at 8:00 am in the cafeteria. Join me in an open, informal forum where we’ll discuss what’s happening at SBS and answer any questions you may have. I hope you can make it!
May God bless you and all who contribute to the important work done on behalf of the children of St. Bernard School. Please continue to keep our school in your prayers.

WHAT'S BRUIN...
St. Bernard Unsung Heroes
Our students not only learn from their example, but also learn the importance of recognizing all the unsung heroes in our lives and communities. This past week brought remembrances of 9/11 and all those who risk their lives to keep us safe. Students Alexa & Ashleigh Sutton thoughtfully provided Engine 53 with some sweet treats from Henke’s Bakery on September 11th as a way to say “thank you” for their service, as well as to remember the sacrifices of those fellow emergency workers who lost their lives 18 years ago.
St. Bernard's salutes all the unsung heroes in our lives!!

TEACHER FEATURE
Cynthia Jordan, 2nd Grade
Cynthia Jordan received her bachelor’s degree from The University of Oklahoma (Boomer! Sooner!). She lives in Lake Highlands with her husband, Kevin, to whom she has been married for 35 years. She spends her free time reading, cooking, but mostly spending time with family and friends. Before coming to SBS, she was a substitute teacher with the Diocese of Dallas for nine years, teaching Pre-school through 8th grade. She worked part time while raising her three boys: Chris, Matthew, and Nicholas. This is Ms. Jordan’s ninth year serving the St. Bernard parish community.
“I look forward to the upcoming school year with excitement! I love being a part of this great community! As the Second Grade Homeroom and Religion Teacher, I am blessed to help our students prepare for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. I look forward to it with excitement!”
FUN FACTS:
1. What is your dream vacation, and who would you take with you?
My dream vacation would be to vacation at the Island St. John in the Virgin Islands and spend a week in the Caribbean on a yacht (with a chef!). I would love to spend the time with my family - Kevin, Chris, Matthew, and Nicholas. I would spend at least 14+ days!
2. What is the most interesting place to which you have travelled?
Two of my favorite places were Costa Rico, and while on a 7 day cruise with my family, we visited Antigua Island with 375 beaches (one for each day of the year) - sooo beautiful!
3. What famous person would you like to meet some day?
I think one person I would like to meet one day is President Jimmy Carter. He has great faith, is a great author, and is so knowledgeable about the Middle East.
