Cultivate who we want to be
When we LEARN, we GROW
Week 32 - April 17
"To get something you never had you have have to do something you never did"
"There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living" - Nelson Mandela
Team SNE,
We are starting to cross the finish lines in sections, what a glorious moment :-)
On Wednesday, our 3rd - 5th Graders will be taking their Reading Staar, this will account for 3 out of the 7 tests. 3 Grades Levels for Reading, 1 Grade Level for Science, 3 Grade Levels for Math. It is ALL of our Responsibility to ensure our kids have the most impactful and amazing 3 days so they are setup for success.
On Monday, we will have the next Celebration Day for our students who made great strides in their Campus Checkpoint. On Tuesday, we have our Reading Pep Rally. And Wednesday is our Day to Shine. Lets be intentional and try to be nothing but positive for our kids each day!!
Last week, our learners earned basketball with staff ... and nothing can replace they laughter, smiles, and joy that our kids and staff shared together. Let us all strive to make as many captured moments of joy as possible during our remaining weeks together.
Last week started our All-Hands-on-Deck Approach. We continued to have Reading Small Groups from the Leadership Team, our Math Small Groups Started, and we have some PK-2nd Grade teachers assisting upper grades during their planning. Our momentum is quickly increasing, and we keep it going for the remaining 3 weeks of testing. We CAN reach our united goal of an A Rated Campus next year.
With our remaining minutes of instruction left - if 80% of the students know the answer, move on the to the next portion. This pacing allows for 'more' time to be spent on the challenge students need to struggle through. No time to waste moving step-by-step with areas students already adequately understand.
Campus Countdown
STAAR Reading: 2 Instructional Days

STAAR Math: 10 Instructional Days
Looking Forward,
Vincent

It.will.not.be.easy ... but it is a real possibly.
Seagoville North Elementary can become an A Rated;
Accomplished Campus, for next school year.
From now, until May 5th, almost everyone of these numbers will be completed.
Please dig in, push forward, keep students engaged in the learning, keep our documented schedules followed and tight, reward student behavior, reinforce student effort, celebrate with our kids who grow and are doing great, praise each other, enjoy our time together, and let us support all of us - our team members as we come together to end on the highest note possible!!
We literally have "just enough time" to make this happen ... meaning we do not have time to use unintentionally (or waste). We MUST identify what they know, and move through it quickly so we can pinpoint what students do not know and give them time and opportunity to learn and constructively struggle with challenging content in collaborate ways.
Flowers' Update
Celebrations:
We change the game and our students LEVELED UP!!! Lets keep the momentum going! Two classes (Reading & Math- Most Growth in goal achievement) will compete against staff in our favorite sports. If you haven’t volunteered, Ms. Flowers will be by to ask your contribution to pump up our kiddos.
Celebrations are scheduled for the following dates and will take place during 3rd-5thSpecials blocks:
- 4/17/23 – Soccer
- 4/24/23 - Kickball
- 5/1/23 – Volleyball
Participating Staff: Wear your gear!!!! Get some rest… (two-15 minute games WHEW!!!)
HOMEROOM TEACHERS: During your Morning Meeting time, please work with students to determine groups of 5 that will be on the court for 5 minutes each so that everyone has opportunity to play (it is okay if students do not want to play and rather cheer- just encourage them to participate)

Informational
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL UPDATES: BLUE LINE/BUS/WALKERS
Due to a new air conditioning unit install, the arrival and dismissal procedures for the back hallway have to be updated slightly. The exterior door for the cafeteria will be blocked for safety reasons, requiring all students to exit from the doors between the cafeteria and the gym. Now that all students have to enter and exit the same door, both doors will be open to make a larger space.
During arrival, all students will enter in the same doors, but now they will split to go to their regular locations to wait between 7:30 and 7:40. Car line and walkers will still wait in the gym, while the bus riders will wait in the cafeteria as they have before.
Dismissal will have a more significant change. Please help us communicate to your students that they will need to follow a slightly different pattern for leaving.
- The car line will still wait in the gym, and when directed by an adult they will leave out the left-hand door.
- The bus line will wait in the cafeteria, but now they will exit the doors inside the cafeteria nearest to the exit door. When directed to do so by an adult, they will leave out of the right-hand door.
- Walkers will now sit to line up next to the teachers lounge/water fountain. They will exit out the door as directed by an adult - whichever door is the most clear.
Now that we have the majority of the students leaving the school through the same small entry point, it is important that all involved know of these small changes. A small change affecting this many people can build up to a much longer dismissal!
STUDENT CELL PHONE COLLECTION
Due to an increase in issues involving student cell phone usage, we will no longer be allowing ANY students to use their cell phones while on campus. Teachers are to ensure that all cell phones are not visible and are turned off, as required by the Dallas ISD Student Code of Conduct. Teachers will have the option to collect student cell phones at the beginning of the school day, to be returned at the end of the school day, in order to help enforce this policy. Teachers in grades 3-5 will receive a bin to assist in collecting the phones so they can be locked away for safety and security purposes. All phones are to be turned off before they are turned in.
Students will no longer be able to use their phones at the teacher's discretion through the day, and all cell phone use is prohibited during recess or lunch. Any student needing to contact a parent can do so using the teacher's district-issued phone number through the Skype application.
This decision is based on the Student Code of Conduct and is designed to reduce the number amount of cell phone-based misconduct we are seeing from some students. To ensure the potential for further distractions is addressed, we are applying these new expectations to all student cell phones.
Therapy Thursdays :-)
School Counselor Washington and Davidson want to bring Therapy Thursdays!! Teachers, feel free to come by and enjoy a few minutes of the relaxation center. You can receive ideas on SEL in the classroom, breathing techniques, stretches, and a light snack!Birthday Celebrations
Students are NOT allowed to bring cupcakes for birthdays based on district policy. Please reinforce this message with your students and families via Class Dojo. If a student does bring in cupcakes, please have them come to the office to return them home.
On Time Duty - Morning Arrivals
Remember that being at your duty by 7:40 am (teachers) and 7:30 am (TAs) is the expectation. If you are not going to be at your duty by this time, please let your evaluator and Ms. Ojeda know with an expected arrival time so that we can coordinate coverage for your spot.
We want to make sure all of our students are safe and supervised. Thank you for helping us assure that this level of care is standard for all!
Attendance - Clocking in and Taking Classroom Attendance
Remember to always clock in each day when you arrive at work.
Please, please, please check your time clock sheet via web clock this week to assure you have not missed any clock in days this month. Submit the Attendance correction form via the Staff Handbook if so. We want you to get paid! You've more than earned it.
Classroom Attendance is so important as well to the continued funding of our school. Please have this submitted each day by 9:00 am.
