Welcome to our latest school newsletter
Dear Families,
Thanks for opening our Newsletter. As always there is lots of things happening here at Bourchier Street. After this week there are only two week's left of the term. Our teachers have been working on Semester Reports. Our twice a year Semester Reports provide updates on your child's progress on the Victorian Curriculum. ‘Progression points’ are the term we use for tracking students progress against the Victorian Curriculum. We provide progression points for English, Mathematics, Inquiry as well as specialists subjects. In addition to progression points teachers have provided a brief general comment about students progress in each Semester. Our Semester Reports are supplemented by progressive reporting on Seesaw. I am sure many families are great at checking Seesaw regularly, where we provide work samples and regular updates on learning progress. Semester Reports will be published in the last Wednesday of Term Two. Seesaw can be accessed at any time!
Next week, we are looking forward to a bit of fun with our Whole School Winter Day. I wanted to thank Mrs Walsh and the other staff who have been planning this exciting day. I encourage everyone to bring along a donation for ‘People supporting people, ’ a well-known local charity managed by Azim.
During the holidays we have some exciting building works planned. A sports cover is scheduled to be installed over our second basketball court. This addition will provide year-long protection from the elements and I am sure will help distribute our basketballers and netballers so our first court is not so crowded during times of heavy usage.
I also wanted to shout out to the team behind ‘Let’s talk Bourchier,’ a student podcast that recently hit Spotify's online shelves. It is awesome to see that our student work is live on a platform that can have a truly global reach. If you haven’t already I recommend you check out the podcast and if you have ideas for future episodes please let us know!
That’s it for now, I hope you have a great couple of week's and as always please reach out if you have any concerns, questions or ideas for school improvement!
Take care,
GARY D'ARMA
SCHOOL TOURS OPEN FOR OUR 2025 FOUNDATION FAMILES
YEAR 2 INQUIRY UNIT
This term the Grade 2 students have been exploring change through different science experiments for their Inquiry unit. This week they are making salt crystals to observe physical change. Stay tuned for their results!
ART - RECYCLED SEA CREATURES
The year 5 and 6 cohort have been working to produce a sea creature made from recycled materials.
The aim of this art project was to reuse and repurpose items that may end up in landfill.
Students created a plan, listed, and sourced the materials needed, built and reflected on their art piece.
The sea creatures are now on display in the main foyer and art room.
CANTEEN PRICE LIST
We have an important update regarding our school canteen menu.
After careful consideration and in response to ongoing profitability concerns, we have made the decision to adjust the prices of our canteen items. This marginal price increase is the first canteen price increase in several years. This change will help us continue to provide a five day a week canteen service to our students.
The new prices have taken effect now.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we implement these necessary adjustments.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
Attached is the update price list.

Preventing the spread of Ilness in School
As the cold weather arrives, so do coughs, colds, stomach bugs and other respiratory illnesses.
It is important that we practice good hygiene, such as washing our hands, hand sanitiser, and using tissues when we cough or sneeze.
If your child is away due to sickness, please update their absence via our Compass App.
Arriving to school on time
Please make it a priority to arrive at school on time.
8.45am - music starts & students make their way to class.
8.55am - Class begins.
If your child/ren arrive to school after 9am they MUST come into the front office to get signed in otherwise our records could show them as absent.
It is extremely important for our school to keep strict attendance records.
When students are punctual, they are more likely to enter the classroom with a clear and open mind, ready to absorb information and engage actively in the day's curriculum.
If you’re picking your student up early
If a parent/guardian needs to pick up their student early from school for an appointment or any other significant reason, please notify your child’s teacher or the front office, with as much notice possible.
Often students are in a specialist program or out of the classroom, so if no notice is given it puts pressure on the office staff when trying to find students whilst answering phones and tending to sick bay.
Please be mindful as we have quite a few students leaving school early which interrupts the classroom as well as their learning time so please avoid this when possible.
