NHHS Weekly Update

New Hanover High School Students and Parents, this is your Principal Philip Sutton. You're as cold as ice! You're willing to sacrifice our love! You never take advice! Someday you'll pay the price, I know. I've seen it before, it happens all the time. You're closing the door, on the fall semester and starting a new semester on Wednesday!

MLK Holiday Jan. 20, TWD Jan. 21

It may be as cold as ice, but we won’t sacrifice a day next week. We will let everyone know if we will need to be fully remote due to the weather next week, but at this time this decision has not been made. Tomorrow, January 20, we will honor Martin Luther King Jr. with the Holiday. No school for students and staff. Tuesday, Jan. 21 is a Teacher Workday, and no school for students. On Wednesday, Jan. 22 if the weather will not allow us to attend school, students please check your NHCS email for updates from your new set of teachers for the spring semester. They will be posting information, expectations, and assignments on Canvas for you to work on if we are not able to be face to face on Wednesday of next week. Students will report to their homeroom classrooms first thing in the morning on Jan. 22 for a brief homeroom to receive a copy of your new schedule for the spring semester.

Lyceum Information Sessions Jan. 23

We will have an information session for current Lyceum juniors on Jan. 23, at 5:30pm in the NHHS Cafeteria. Information will include the introduction of AP Research and the AP Capstone Diploma certification for Lyceum students. We will have an information session for current 9th and 10th grade PreLyceum families on Jan. 23, at 6:30pm in the NHHS Cafeteria. Information regarding the Lyceum Academy, AP Capstone integration, and the application process for continuing in the program will be shared in the presentation. If students or families are not able to attend the meeting, we will send out this information via email.

SECU Scholarship Applications due January 26

The SECU Scholarship application for seniors is now open and due by Jan. 26. Interviews will be held during the school day on Jan. 30. Students must submit applications through the Scholarship Google Classroom by Jan. 26. Contact Ms. Mauk for more information. reagan.mauk@nhcs.net

Applications for Tar Heels Boys State

Applications for Tar Heels Boys State (June 15-21) are open for juniors and interviews are being held January through March. Information was emailed to 11th graders from Ms. Mauk. Check your student email for more details!

Review Schedules for Second Semester

Students, remember to review your second semester schedule in PowerSchool. All course change requests should be submitted to your counselor via this schedule change form which is also on the NHHS homepage. The last day to request a change is January 28th.

CFCC Dual Enrollment Meeting for 10th and 11th Grade

If you are a sophomore or junior and you are interested in taking classes at Cape Fear Community College through dual enrollment, we are having two information sessions. These are for parents and students to learn more about the class options available via the CCP / dual enrollment program and to learn about the application process. Please mark your calendar for Wednesday, February 5th at 6pm or Wednesday, February 12th at 6pm. These info sessions will be held in the Media Center.

SAVE Promise Club

The SAVE Promise Club will be meeting Thursday, Jan. 23 after school in the media center. See Ms. Creech if you have any questions.

Attendance

Starting the semester with good attendance is key to setting yourself up for success. Consistently being present in class helps you stay on track with the material, participate actively, and build a strong foundation for the rest of the term. Stay committed and make attendance a priority!
