The J-List
February 9, 2024
Hello JES Family,
We kicked off the day today with our Dad's Club Dragons & Donuts event. It was great to see our cafeteria and auditorium packed with our families to hear Coach McCoart, our Lady Dragon Basketball Coach, and half of her team talk about "What does it look like to go the extra degree?" I loved the example she used about boiling water - all the magic happens when you move the temperature up only one degree from 211 to 212 degrees! Also, one of our students asked one of the players, Milania Jordan, about the amount of time she practices in addition to the team practice time, and Milania stated "The hard work you put in in the dark makes you shine in the light!" What great words of wisdom for our kids to hear! Congratulations ladies on a great season (28-5 overall, 12-0 in district) and best wishes to the team as we look towards a long playoff run!
In case you didn't already hear, I am so excited to share that our PTO is funding over 5,600 square feet of turf for our playground! This will help with erosion control and allow our students more opportunities to be outside when we have wet weather! All of this is possible thanks to your donations and participation in PTO events like our online auction, JES Olympics, and the November adult event.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or celebrations you would like to share with me and...GO DRAGONS!!!!!

Kids Heart Challenge Update!
A heartfelt thanks to our students who have learned Hands-Only CPR during our Kids Heart Challenge, earned characters delivering heart-healthy messages, and are spreading awareness through texts, emails, and social media!
If you haven't already, please consider signing up to join the JES Kids Heart Challenge team on the American Heart Association Schools app for iPhone or Android, or registering online using this link. Any student who raises $200 in donations will get to attend a COLOR BLAST PARTY with Coach Wilson, Coach Higginbotham, & Mr. Holladay. So far we have 41 students who have earned their ticket!
As of Wednesday afternoon, we have 312 students who have joined, 22 who have completed Finn's Mission, and have raised over $24,000.

PTO Playground Improvements!
Thanks to successful fundraising and the generosity of our families, we are able to install 5,600 square feet of turf on the playground as our next project. This will allow our kids to enjoy many more outdoor recess days as opposed to having to stay inside due to mud from rainy days. If weather permits, the kids will be enjoying the new turf on February 20th! Our two shade structures purchased after the Adult Auction and Social are also in the permitting phase with the city and will be installed this spring!
