Week #19, Week of December 9th
Dear Students and Families,
Happy Week #19 WYWLA Families! Important notes are below!
Winter Emotions...
Winter can bring a laundry list of emotions and feelings for students, adults, families, and communities. If you or your student finds yourself feeling down this winter, please know that you can seek out support. Please contact our counselors for student resources if you need!
Have You Moved This Year?
*If you have recently moved or changed your contact information, please be sure to reach out to Jessica Balraj at jbalraj@wcpss.net to update your details. Keeping your information current ensures that we can effectively communicate important updates and notices. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain accurate records for your student.
PJ Day: Monday, December 9
Main Campus students earned a PJ Day during the Fall PTSA Fundraiser and it's time to celebrate the reward. PJ Day is Monday, December 9. Students can wear school appropriate PJs (Sorry no short-shorts and no sleep gowns without leggings underneath). Students can wear their PJs with Crocs or Sneakers. If students do not want to participate, they can wear their unform!
Introducing Our New School Nurse: Marley Larue
We are pleased to announce the arrival of Nurse Marley Larue as our new school nurse. Nurse Marley comes to us with extensive experience in Pediatrics, Children, and Adolescent Medicine. We are excited to have her join our school community and look forward to the care and expertise she will provide to our students.
Please see below for her contact information and the days she will be on campus. Be sure to add her to your staff email list for any important updates.
We are confident that Nurse Marley will be a wonderful addition to our team!
Congratulations to Our PTSA Reflections Winners!
We are thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s PTSA Reflections Contest:
🏅 1st Place: Samanvi M.
🥈 2nd Place: Zoe S.
A special congratulations to Samanvi, whose entry has advanced to the countywide competition! We are so proud of both of these talented students for their creativity and hard work. 🎉
Looking ahead, the 2025-2026 Reflections theme is: I Belong. This inspiring theme encourages students to reflect on their sense of connection and belonging, expressing these ideas through creative mediums. Stay tuned for details on how to participate in the next contest!

Say Something Anonymous Reporting
North Carolina requires all schools to provide a secure tip line for students to report safety concerns when they’re unable to reach a trusted adult. This tool is designed to support, not replace, open communication with safe adults and is part of a broader effort to ensure student well-being. Throughout November, students will receive training on how to use this tool, which includes a brief overview, a video, and a guide on its use. Parents are encouraged to visit the program’s website to learn more about this national platform and to have conversations with their students about the importance of sharing concerns with trusted adults.
Parents should review link below for general information and program notes. Please send any questions to Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Greene Flowers, Mrs. Little, or Mrs. Whitehead.

Marvelous Owl Moment! 🦉
We’re excited to share that Iman is soaring to new heights as a semifinalist for the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship! 🌟
This is a huge accomplishment, and she’s only the second OWL in our school’s history to achieve this honor (shoutout to Taylor K. for being the first!).
We are incredibly proud of Iman’s hard work, leadership, and dedication. Please join us in cheering her on as she continues this amazing journey. Fly high, Iman! 💙🤍
