Emerson Update 08/15/24

I am thrilled to welcome you back to another exciting school year at Emerson Middle School! As I embark on my second year as your principal, my enthusiasm for this upcoming year continues to grow. I am eager to build upon our successes from last year and create an even more enriching and supportive learning environment for our students.

We are looking forward to partnering with all Emerson families to foster a strong sense of community. This year, we are especially excited to introduce several new staff members who bring fresh perspectives and expertise to our school. Additionally, we have implemented a new PBIS rewards program designed to recognize and celebrate student achievements.

To help our students prepare for the start of the school year, we are hosting a Building Walk-Through on Friday, August 23rd. This self-guided tour is an opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with their schedules and lockers. Student schedules should be available via Student Connect Wednesday, August 21st in the afternoon. We will be providing a BBQ, courtesy of our PTSA, to make the event even more enjoyable.

To accommodate our students, we are asking 7th graders to attend from 3:30-4:30 PM and 8th graders from 4:30-5:30 PM.

Our first day of school is Monday, August 26th. We are excited to welcome back all of our students and look forward to a fantastic year!

• Transportation will be on a 4-hour delay.
• Example: If your bus picks you up at 7:30AM, it will pick you up at 11:30AM.

• Orders are estimated to deliver 2-3 weeks after the deadline date (pending product availability)

• We cannot accept returns or exchanges on screen printed or embroidered apparel.
• Please check your order carefully to ensure the correct sizes and colors are selected. We cannot make changes once the order is submitted.

Student schedules and locker combinations will be available on Parent and Student Connect on Wednesday, August 21st.

Unless there is a mistake on a student's schedule (e.g., two math classes, a period without an assigned course, etc.), we are NOT changing students' schedules at this time.

If there is a mistake, students should sign up to see their counselors, and they will call them down once school has started.

SEASON ONE

Cross Country

You must have a physical exam form on file in the athletic office in order to participate. See the section on sport's physicals for more information

The first day of practice is August 27. There will be one boys and one girls team. A Google Form to sign up students will be emailed to all parents some time in August.

All practices are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00-4:30.

All meets start at 4:00.

The course run is a two-mile overland course (Emerson's home course is on site).

You must have rides ready for pick up at 4:30 on practice days and immediately after meets. Late pick ups may result in removal from the team.

Girls Volleyball

The first day of tryouts is August 27. Our tryouts will be August 27, 28, & 29. The times for tryouts are 3:00-4:30. All student athletes must sign up prior to tryouts. If a student does not sign up, they will not be able to try out. A Google Form will be emailed to all parents some time in August. Also, all student athletes must be present on all three tryout dates.

There will be one team of 15 seventh graders.

There will be one team of 12 eighth graders.

Students will need to provide their own volleyball shorts for games (plain black, minimum four-inch inseam).

All practices are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00-4:30.

All home games and Livonia vs. Livonia games start at 4:00.

For out of district away games: seventh grade at 4:00, eighth grade immediately after (approx. 5:00).

Sports Physical

All students must have a current sports physical on file in order to participate/tryout. A valid 2024-2025 physical examination must be completed on or after April 15, 2024. Physicals are mandatory for participation.

Sports Physical

All sports physicals must be uploaded to Final Forms. Also, the parent AND student section in Final Forms must be completed in order to participate in sports at Emerson.

Final Forms Instructions

There are two ways you can report an absence for your student at Emerson.

Option 1:

• Go to the Emerson Middle School website.
• Click on "Report an Absence" under Quicklinks.
• Fill out the Google Form (also at the top of this newsletter).

Option 2:

• Call the attendance line at 734-744-2666.
• Please leave a detailed message about your student's absence.
• Include their name, reason for absence and any specifics we may need to know.

Eagle Time at Emerson is used in a variety of ways to support students.

Throughout the year, we'll use this time to provide interventions and extensions to ensure students are learning, to have school-wide Google Meets and assemblies, to provide time for our Student Congress and other groups to meet, etc.

We will often post relevant and important information on social media for families, and many families find it helpful to contact us on Facebook and Twitter. The absolute best way to contact us and get a reply, however, is by emailing the appropriate staff member or by phone (734) 744-2665.
