March 2024
Hello West Fork High School Families,
The spring semester is in full swing! As we draw closer to spring break and enter the testing period, consistent attendance is crucial for our students; students who miss more than 8 days are at risk for not earning credit. Report Card 3 has been uploaded to Skyward for your review; as a reminder, students must have an overall average of a 70 in a course to earn credit. Should students require any assistance or support, our teachers are readily available during voluntary study hall sessions.

When Sean Speaks - Sophomore Presentation on March 27th
When Sean Speaks is a passionate organization committed to raising awareness about the dangers of mixing alcohol, automobiles, and asphalt. Their mission extends beyond cautioning against drunk or distracted driving; they emphasize the critical importance of being mindful of whose vehicle you choose to ride in as a passenger.
Sean, along with his dedicated mother Jenny, serves as a beacon of education and advocacy in their community. Through their tireless efforts, they have reached tens of thousands of young individuals, instilling in them the knowledge and responsibility needed to make informed decisions. By sharing personal experiences and highlighting the sobering consequences of reckless choices, Sean and Jenny empower others to prioritize safety and well-being on the road.
When Sean Speaks will be coming to West Fork High School on March 27th to present to our sophomore students.
PSAT 10 Test - Save the Date
The PSAT test will be administered to 10th grade students on Thursday, March 28th. Please save the date and ensure your student will be at school, as we are unable to offer a make-up administration of this exam.
The PSAT 10 is an important opportunity for sophomore students to practice before taking the PSAT NMSQT test their junior year along with the SAT exam. For more information, please reach out to our Dean of Instruction, Jennifer Tatom, at jtatom@newcaneyisd.org or our College Readiness Testing Corodinator, Allyson Pitcel, at apitcel@newcaneyisd.org

New Caney ISD Million Minutes Challenge
New Caney ISD is working to read a million minutes by April! We are encouraging all students to read for at least twenty minutes a day. Studies show that students who read for 20 minutes a day are exposed to 1,800,000 words a year!
Students should log their minutes in Beanstack, our district reading competition app. For help logging minutes, students can stop by the library media center.

7 Mindsets
The Live to Give Mindset teaches the importance of serving others while maximizing our own potential. It tells us that abundance in life is a cycle; in order to receive love, respect, and financial security, we must first learn to give those things to others. This mindset also teaches us that the greatest gift we can ever give is to find and leverage our unique genius to maximize our positive impact on the world, knowing that good things will be returned to us in kind. In the lessons for this mindset, we guide students to think about the impact they want to make and the legacy they want to leave.
Important Dates
March 4-15: xSEL Survey administered to students during Social Studies
March 18-22: Panorama Survey administered to all students during English
March 28: PSAT for all 10th grade students
Lunch Time Counselor Corner
Each month the counselors set up in the cafeteria during student lunches to build culture and climate through interactive social emotional learning opportunities. In February for Healthy Relationships, students pledged to show respect in all their relationships. The students also told us what they thought was needed in a healthy relationship by writing on a heart.
