Mr. Smith's Scoop 🍦
Happy Friday!
Report cards for the second quarter should be available in PowerSchool on January 6th. If you would like a hard copy of your son’s/daughter’s report card, please call our front office. When we return from Winter Break, I encourage you to check PowerSchool weekly to check attendance, grades and possible missing assignments. Having this information as a parent/guardian will help you support your son/daughter in the learning journey.
With a few weeks off for Winter Break working in some fun learning activities may reduce the typical learning slide that occurs over break. A family read-aloud where you share new vocabulary words and ask “right there” and “inferred” questions about the story or characters can create a wonderful family time each day.
Math skills can be supported through dice games, games with money – think Yahtzee or Monopoly or variations of these games. For our 3rd and 4th graders any game or activity that increases multiplication and division fluency will help them memorize their multiplication facts. Knowing these facts allows for an increased feeling of being a mathematician.
Have a fun & safe break! We look forward to seeing our students on Monday, January 6th.

Building Emotional Intelligence with RULER
Have you heard of RULER? It’s a powerful framework that helps us understand, use, and manage our emotions effectively. As a school, We are excited to share how RULER is helping our students develop crucial social and emotional skills.
What is RULER?
RULER is an acronym for:
- Recognizing our emotions
- Understanding our emotions
- Labeling our emotions
- Expressing our emotions
- Regulating our emotions
By teaching students these skills, we empower them to:
- Build stronger relationships
- Improve academic performance
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Make better decisions
- Resolve conflicts peacefully
RULER is being integrated into our school culture through:
- Classroom lessons: Teachers incorporate RULER into their lessons to teach students about emotions and how to manage them.
- Social-emotional learning activities: Students participate in activities that help them practice RULER skills, such as mindfulness exercises, role-playing, and group discussions.
- Positive behavior interventions and supports: RULER is used to teach students positive behavior strategies and to address challenging behavior.
By fostering emotional intelligence, we’re creating a more positive and supportive learning
environment for all students.
Fresh News from the Cafeteria!
🎈 Got a Birthday Coming Up? Purchase a Birthday Box! 🎈
Our cafeteria can provide birthday boxes at a very low cost. This reduces the impact on classroom learning time (every minute counts), reduces the likelihood of ants in classrooms and creates a fun celebration during lunch times. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tkA7cxvKb4gCb7RDTtE2mxsgSZzxXMui/view?usp=sharing
