Happy Friday!
I hope everyone has been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather we have been having. We are approaching the end of the 3rd quarter. The 3rd quarter will end on March 12th and parent teacher conferences will be held on March 17th. I want to encourage you to attend these conferences and engage with your student’s teacher in regard to their academics.
As you can see from the list above, Spring is a busy time of year here at the school. Please come on out to the school and involve yourself in the many activities and support the students. The varsity girls will be playing for the district basketball title March 1st at 1:00 p.m. in Maysville. If you can spare the time come out and support the girls in their adventure.
I would like to say thank you to the playground committee for taking the lead on improving our elementary playground. This work continues and we hope to have it completed as soon as the weather allows.
If you have any questions or concerns in regard to district happenings please stop by for a visit or call the office.
Best Regards,
Dr. Barnes

Tim's Tidbits
It's almost spring time and I completely blame that darn groundhog for February’s weather. March and April are big months in the elementary academically as we are pushing to prepare for the MAP test and gearing up for the final push of the school year.. The end of the 3rd quarter is March 12th and Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Monday, March 17th from 12:30p.m.-7:00p.m. These conferences are pre-scheduled and classroom teachers will reach out to schedule individual conference times if they feel a conference is necessary. Likewise, if you would like to schedule a conference please make contact with the teacher and we will get you a scheduled conference time.
In March we also have several literacy events. March 4th-7th we will be celebrating Read Across America week. Each morning we will drop everything and all students, teachers, and staff will read from 8:20a.m.-8:30a.m. We will also have dress up days for each day of the week. Lastly, we will have a readers theatre on Friday. This is a fun week for all, as we work hard to promote literacy and reading for all our students.
March 6th is Casual Picture day. Please contact the school if you have any questions regarding these pictures.
March 11th is our elementary literacy night from 5:30p.m.-7:30p.m. We encourage all students and parents to come enjoy the snacks and literacy activities.
We will also have Pre-School Screening on March 11th. If you have a preschool age student for the 2025-26 school year and you have not heard from us, please contact the elementary office so your student can be added to our list.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the school and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you,
Mr. Conn

Nurse's News
Please work on completing next year's immunizations! It helps us so much if you can get these done ahead of time. Our spring clinic to receive these here at school for MS/HS students is scheduled for April 9th at 1:00 pm. Paperwork will be mailed home. Pre K and Kindergarten must get these completed outside of school.
We have also scheduled our spring physicals on April 9th at 1:00 pm for 6th-12th graders. Community Hospital-Fairfax will be coming to WN on this date to get these completed. Paperwork will be available closer to the time in the office. These are due every 2 years, so if you need to check dates give Valerie a call. Please utilize these services to keep immunizations and physicals up to date!
A few upcoming events:
*Senior CPR prior to graduation- date TBD
*April 9th-Spring Immunization clinic
*April 9th-Spring Physicals
*April 29th- Big Smiles Dental visit
Counselor's Corner
The month of February is short but became very brief this year with all the snow and cold temperatures. With that said, there is one constant no matter how many days we are in attendance. That’s deadlines, Dual credit courses, college applications, and scholarships abide by the dates established. Please check with your student and make sure they are keeping up on these items so there is no negative impact on their future college plans.
Seniors...spring is just around the corner which means we are getting closer to graduation. It will be here before you realize! Please make sure you are finalizing post high school plans and completing various required paperwork. So far, sent transcripts to tech schools and colleges for four seniors, completed paperwork for one college bound athlete, and helped five students complete scholarships. I am here before and after school to assist students with these processes and applications. Seniors also need to complete their profile sheet for graduation and email me two senior pictures.
As February ends, Elementary is finishing up their “honesty” lessons through Character Strong as well as mini lessons on famous African Americans. Upper elementary students are working on their research reports and will be presenting information at lunch time during March. From athletes to musicians to scientists, the students have learned about a variety of people throughout history.
8th Grade students are finishing up their 4-year high school plans. These items are used as a guide to choose classes, track credits, and revise goals over the next four year. Some of the students are interested in technical jobs such as welding and carpentry while others are narrowing in on careers for health care or business. The most frequently sought-after occupation right now is in the field of health care. It will be interesting to see how many of these plans change as the students venture through high school.
March starts another surge of career events for high school students. Sophomores will be attending a career fair at Tarkio Tech on March 19 and Juniors and Seniors head to Rosecrans Air Base on April 16th. In the past, both of these events were well worth the time and I am looking forward to taking students again to these opportunities. Students interested in VoTech next year will be touring the Maryville facility on March 14th. There will be an application and interview process for those wishing to attend VoTech as we can only send nine students.
College and Career Mondays have two more dates for this academic year. March 17 will be a morning trip to Maryville focused on emergency services where we will visit Nodaway County Sheriff Department, University Police, Maryville Police, Maryville Fire, and Nodaway County Ambulance. March 24 will finish out our year with a tour of Missouri Highway Patrol Headquarters in St. Joseph and learning about all their various departments from communications to crime laboratory to SWAT team response. Please encourage your child to attend these trips and come speak with me if there is a specific career they would like to explore next year.
