Simpson Elementary School: March 2025 Edition
Dr. Seuss Reading Challenge
In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, the Montesano PTO would like to challenge students to read 10 books (or 10 chapters) between now and March 15. Students should write down what they read in the boxes on the reading challenge form and have parents sign off on it. Students can turn in their completed forms to the office by March 17 for a SWEET reward. Watch for reading challenge forms to come home in boomerangs!
State Testing
Simpson students will be participating in state testing in the month of May. Third and fourth grade students will be testing the first two weeks of May. Fifth and sixth grade students will be testing the last two weeks of May. More details will be shared as the dates get closer.
Please ensure your child is getting plenty of rest, eating a nutritious breakfast, and arriving on time on testing days. Schedule appointments outside of testing times and communicate with your child's teacher if an absence is unavoidable. Students who are absent on a testing day will have to make up the test upon their return.
Progress Reports
Progress reports will be sent home in boomerangs on Friday, April 11. We encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher with questions or concerns.
Open Enrollment Coming Soon
Open enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year begins April 21, 2025. A link will be available on the Montesano School District website at www.monteschools.org to enroll NEW students using the Skyward Family Access system. Proof of age, immunization records, and proof of residency are required at the time of enrollment for all students. Students already attending Montesano schools do not need to re-enroll. More details will be coming soon.
Out of District Students
Due to a change in district procedures, we are unable to accept annual choice paperwork (renewals and new requests) until July 1st. All choice paperwork will be accepted on or after July 1, 2025 and can be submitted to the district office in person or electronically. Families will be notified of choice status when the committee meets in late August. We do not anticipate changes in the renewal process other than it being later compared to prior years.
Save the Date! Parent Input Week
Parent input week is scheduled for April 21 – April 25 for both Beacon Elementary and Simpson Elementary Schools. If you would like to provide input regarding your child's learning style or needs for the upcoming school year, please complete the online form that will be available during parent input week. All submissions will be taken into consideration by the principals.
Bulldogs of the Month
Each month, Simpson students focus on developing specific character traits. Students learn what it looks like to exhibit these traits and are recognized for demonstrating them inside and outside of the classroom. February's character trait was "caring and kindness." Congratulations to February's Bulldogs of the Month: Reese J., Marlie S., Daisja H., Mazzy F., Ady A., Maggie N., Ruby G., Deklynn S., Bailey B., Yoh-Leenah S., Hudson H., Raider W., Anna B., Emma C., Mark L., Tucker N., Payton G., and Dahlia W.
Students will focus on "responsibility" as the character trait for the month of March.
