๐ Language Arts ๐
This week we will begin a unit on Personal Narratives. We will be writing our own narratives as well as reading and analyzing those by other authors.
Reading Counts quizzes for April are DUE TOMORROW 4/30. The last one for the year will be for the month of May.
โโ Math โ๏ธโ
We will be starting the math MSTEP tomorrow. It will take approximately 4 class periods to complete.
Students can earn tickets during the MSTEP this week by showing their work on the whiteboard, trying their best, and having a positive attitude. At the end of ALL MSTEP testing, we will draw tickets for prizes!!
๐งก What Parents Can Do to Help Students Prepare:
Make sure that your child is well rested and eats a healthy breakfast.
Talk to your child about testing: Let them know that assessment is a regular part of learning. Make sure they understand why they are being tested and how it is important.
Keep state tests in perspective: Reduce your childโs anxiety about the test by reminding them that it is just one measure of learning, and another way to find out where their academic strengths and weaknesses are. Remind them of what they do well, and how they have improved with effort.
Encourage them to simply do their best.
๐งช Science ๐ญ
Thursday we will be quizzed on a diagram of the circulatory and respiratory systems. We will be moving onto learning about our sensory systems. There will be a lab to get us started. We will be learning about stimulus and response in humans and how messages are sent to our brain. We will also learn about how different animals have adaptations that help them make sense of their environment.
๐บ๏ธ Social Studies ๐ฉโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ
This week we are finishing up Unit- 8 Westward Expansion. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Friday, May 3rd. A copy of the flashcards are attached.
This year we have been learning the names of the 50 states. We took a pretest the first month of school, a mid-year test, and will soon take the final test. The expectation is that students will be able to label 25 of the 50 United States. The test is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th. I have attached a practice sheet and answer key. Feel free to print multiple copies so your child can practice at home.
๐ Read 180 ๐
We continue to work on tricky phonics sounds and spelling in READ 180! Students are showing great signs of improvement going back into the text to find answers as well as growing their vocabulary. Reading progress sheets will be sent home this week for those who do not come to conferences. Be on the lookout for your student to bring it home.
As we near the end of the year, students in READ 180 will be expected to do a bit more work independently during class. As always, Iโm happy with confusion and questions. Moving forward, certain assignments in READ 180 will not have the option to be turned in late or made up. There will be a note in PowerSchool for all assignments that may not be made up outside of class. Please let me know if you have any questions at akonesko@kingsleyschools.org.
