The Intersection of Science and PE: The Circulatory System
This week students at the Sokolowski School got to move through an obstacle course representing the circulatory system. During Physical Education, students have been learning about the circulatory system and how it works. In particular they have been learning about the heart and how to take action to keep it healthy. As they moved through the obstacle course they represented the blood traveling through the body delivering oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, organs and brain. Students traveled through veins by jumping over hurdles or through hoop tires to get to the heart. They traveled through arteries by balancing on a beam or going through a hoop tunnel to move away from the heart. While in the heart they crawled under ropes and log rolled down a wedge mat! They dropped off carbon dioxide and picked up oxygen in the lungs while doing step ups! To deliver oxygen to the brain they read heart facts and wrote important vocabulary words on our posters. At the muscles they did med ball slams and at the organs they dribbled a basketball. Students had a blast while learning about the circulatory system!
