Music
Music in March!
This month in music centers around American Sign Language and composition.
6th Grade
In 6th grade, we are learning to compose simple 4 measure songs using the notes and letter names we have learned previously. We are also learning to play the songs that we compose and how we can translate that to other instruments. We are working on presenting our performances in front of an audience.
5th Grade
In 5th grade, we are also composing 4 measure songs using notes and letter names that we have previously learned. In addition to playing those songs on the glockenspiels we are also learning to feel syncopated rhythms with our bodies through dance.
4th Grade
4th grade are learning to practice American Sign Language by signing our names from memory, signing through a class song, and memorizing the alphabet. 4th graders this month are also learning to keep syncopated rhythms in our bodies through dance.
3rd Grade
3rd Graders are learning how to sign the alphabet in sign language, how to spell our names from memory and how to sing and sign our class song. We are also keeping syncopated rhythms in our bodies by using dance.

In 2nd grade, we are learning about the Blackfoot Native Americans and performing a song from our memory. We are learning the alphabet, how to spell our names, and a class song in ASL.

First grade is learning to feel beats and rhythms in music. We are exploring how to spell our names in ASL and how to perform a class song while signing and singing.
Kindergarten
In Kindergarten we are distinguishing between fast and slow in our music. We are learning to ear train by identifying sounds without seeing what instrument made them. Additionally, Kindergarten is learning to sign a class song called 'Count On Me'.
Art
Art in MARCH!
Kindergarten - Students are working on creating two works of art that will focus on creating animals that show texture and/or pattern. One work of art is a painting and the other is made out of clay.
1st Grade - Students will be continuing their work on their Ceramic Pinch Pot Animal of their choice. The second week is focusing on painting with glaze where they can apply great craftsmanship and overlap colors to create new colors with the glaze.
2nd Grade - Students will be working on Glazing their Ceramic Relief Animal. In this project we are working on showing great craftsmanship in painting and using colors that art true to their animals. Then students will work on creating a Folk Art painting. In this project students will choose a person, place, or thing that is familiar to them and fill the space of the paper.
3rd Grade - Students will be creating a Self-Portrait. In this project students will working on creating proportion in the face and creating an interesting background using a technique of mono-printmaking.
4th Grade - Students are working on a Colorado Animal or Plant Diorama. In this project students will create an origami box where they will paint pieces that get attached inside to create a scene where the animal and plant would be found.
5th Grade - Students will be glazing their Ceramic Container applying their painting techniques to show great craftsmanship. Then, students will move onto a Reduction Printmaking. In this project students will choose a main object that fills the space and that has texture. Then they will demonstrate their skills of drawing by creating an interesting background pattern that contrasts with their object.
6th Grade - Students will be working on a Clay Relief Self-Portrait. In this project, students can decide if they want to stay true to classic face proportions or if they would like to exaggerate features to create their own style. After they have finished with clay, students will show their craftsmanship in painting their Ceramic Self-Portrait with glaze.
PE
What's happening in the gym in March?!
March in P.E. means basketball and March madness.
Grades 3-6 are working on the skills of dribbling, passing, and shooting a basketball, with the week culminating in small sided basketball games. Additionally, on March 6th afterschool, we'll be hosting a 3v3 March Madness tournament for those interested.
Grades K-2 will also work on basketball related skills, but will focus on smaller, more scaffolded skills. We'll start with bouncing and catching a ball in a number of different dynamic environments. We'll then transition to the skill of dribbling, emphasizing the use of our finger pads and proper force to keep close control of our ball.
