Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
I've always loved this time of year, and 2023 will always be very special to me. Did you know that we had seven athletics teams make it to postseason this fall? Such a feat is almost unheard of. Our Bulldogs Football Team was among the postseason qualifiers, winning its first district championship since 2016! I know you are as proud as I am about their phenomenal season.
Not only did the Bulldogs win the district title playing home games in a stadium that's about 20 miles from here, they did it in style. We have had student-athletes and coaches garnering statewide honors this season, a Sweepstakes-winning band rooting them on from the stands; a national-qualifying cheerleading squad helping to keep the crowd involved; committed student trainers keeping everyone hydrated and healthy; and a crowd of committed fans who have been willing to go out of the way to cheer on the home team.
The 2023 Bulldogs were nothing short of spectacular, and I hope you join me in thanking our coaches for their efforts to continue — and raise the bar — on our legacy of excellence.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Congratulations to Bailey Upshaw, Cassidy Arevalo and Madison Dominguez who, on National Signing Day, committed to continue their studies and athletic careers at the college level.
- A big shout-out to the La Porte High School Cheer Squad, which qualified for national competition this past week.
- Kudos to Meagan Bergeron and the many other volunteers who organized the Project Graduation 5K on Saturday at Sylvan Beach. Because of their efforts and the participation of numerous community members, more than $4,000 was raised to support a safe post-commencement event for La Porte High School graduates.
- And I want to offer many thanks to all of the veterans who have selflessly served our country as members of the armed forces. We all owe you a huge debt of gratitude.
We have just a handful of days before the Thanksgiving break, and I want to encourage everyone to be in attendance and finish strong this week. Before you know it, we will be enjoying a long winter holiday!
Have a great week!
