End of the Year Celebration
From Superintendent Edwards
Dear Students, Parents, Staff and our greater community,
Welcome to June! This time of year includes so many emotions, from excitement to sadness, and from remembrance to celebration. June is the time of year for a school to be thinking about next year while at the same time finishing off all of the great things from this school year. As you know, there are many concerts, events, ceremonies and other celebrations. If I wish you anything, it is that you will take the time to enjoy some of our end-of-year events or, if nothing else, to cheer your student on as they make their way through these next few weeks.
Please be sure to frequently check out our website and social media to stay apprised of the many happenings throughout the month. Cheer and celebrate with us!
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to the well-being of our students and community. Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Bob Edwards

The 2nd Annual Cortland County Olympiad was held on May 29, 2024. Athletes from the Cortland County Schools competed in various track events and yard games with many parents and fans cheering them on. The day was filled with amazing accomplishments made by our student athletes. The phrase, “best day of the year” was heard throughout the day.
News from the District Nurses
Parents plan ahead: all new students and incoming preK/K, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th graders will need to have an updated physical on file for next school year. Also immunizations are due at the beginning of preK/K, 6th, 7th and 12th grade. Please check with your school nurse to make sure your child is up to date and make sure all paperwork is sent to your school nurse over the summer. One last thing: please check your student’s report card when it is mailed for important information regarding your child’s health.
We hope you all have a safe, healthy and fun summer. See you in the Fall!

We are getting ready for the end of the year and that brings along a lot of exciting events. There will be field trips and award ceremonies… music concerts and art shows. Be sure to check the website and listen for informational “robocalls”.
With all of the happenings at the end of the year, many people might start to feel overwhelmed. Students are reminded to ask for help and break down tasks into small manageable steps. One of the quotes the students will hear during Homeroom Headlines this month is, “Focus on the step in front of you, not the whole staircase”. This quote reminds students that they do not have to complete all assignments in one day. It is important to prioritize and stick with a plan to get things done a little bit at a time.

From Principal Quinn
June is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our year together at Randall Middle School. Our students have engaged in high levels of learning throughout the year, and in June they show off their Evidence of Learning Portfolios to celebrate their progress. Our Annual Evidence of Learning Day is scheduled for the morning of Friday, June 21, 2024. We invite our parents, caregivers, and community members to come and hear students review their year of accomplishments. In the afternoon on 6/21, we are hosting a Career Fair for students to have an opportunity to see various careers that they might be interested in. Are you interested in setting up a table at our Career Fair to talk with students about your career? Please contact Ms. Siddiqui, our 5/6 Counselor at msiddiqui@cortlandschools.org and Ms. Wilson, our School Librarian at ewilson@cortlandschools.org.
Looking ahead to the summer, there are many opportunities available for students to enjoy in Cortland! The summer reading program at Cortland Free Library will begin on Monday, June 24, 2024. Miss Tammy, the Youth Services Librarian, always organizes tons of cool activities throughout the summer to go along with the Summer Reading Program. When you go to the Library, be sure to tell Miss Tammy that Mrs. Quinn sent you! :)
Our Cortland Youth Bureau will have various activities throughout the summer at the Youth Center and throughout the city at various parks. Check out their website or stop in!

Students Compete in the “Amazing Race”
This past month, all 5th graders and all 6th graders competed in a school-wide math scavenger hunt put on by Mr. Wallis and Mrs. Snyder, the Math Interventionists, a.k.a. “Number Ninjas”. Students worked collaboratively to solve problems which gave them passcodes to lock boxes. The top team from each homeroom went into the third day, and their classmates surprised them outside to cheer them through the finish line. Congrats to all!
Cortland Art
This year the junior high and high school paired up for a joint art show. It was a wonderful evening celebrating art and Cortland's talented artists!
The art department would also like to recognize Nadia Bieber as she retires and moves on to new adventures. She has been a pillar to our department, and a leader in our school community here in Cortland. Nadj, you will be missed, but we love you and wish you much happiness!
