HMS 2024-2025 Student Cell Phone Use Policy
Dear HMS Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
We are excited for school to start this Wednesday, August 14, 2024. This is just a reminder we are implementing a “no cell phone & earbud/headphone policy” during the school day (from 9:00 AM to 4:20 PM).
Parents who need to get a message to their student during the school day can call the HMS Receptionist at (512)570-3400, and a message will be delivered to their child. Should a student need to contact their parent(s) during the school day, they may use the phone in the reception area.
Student Expectation: Cell phones and earbuds/headphones are to be stored in students’ backpacks for the entire school day (including passing periods, lunches, bathrooms, and athletics areas). The following consequences will be given for students failing to follow the HMS cell phone use guidelines:
1st Offense
Phone is collected and stored in the office.
Student retrieves the phone from the office at the end of the school day.
2nd Offense
Phone is collected and stored in the office.
Student retrieves the phone from the office at the end of the school day.
Student conference with the assistant principal.
Parent/Guardian notified.
3rd Offense
Phone is collected and stored in the office.
A parent/guardian must retrieve the phone from the office. The device will not be returned to the student directly.
4th Offense
Phone must be turned-in to the office before-school (prior to 9:00 AM) for two weeks and retrieved by the student at the end each school day.
Smart watches follow under this same policy if they are being used for anything other than to tell time.
We are excited to begin a new school year and are looking forward to a school experience where students are “untethered” from their personal devices and social media during the school day!
