Cozine Climber Updates - October 3
A Note From Cozine:
Hi Climber Families!
We need your help with a student safety issue. Many students are arriving at school significantly earlier than they should in the mornings. Our student arrival time is 8:45am and there is no adult supervision outside before that time. For their safety, please make sure your student arrives no earlier than 8:45am.
In Kindness,
Ms. Jodi Notch, Mrs. Lisa Dalton, and Ms. Tamara Martinezjunco (MJ)
NEW INFORMATION
XtraMath Program
Cozine is excited to announce our new Math Fact Fluency program - XtraMath. This is a web based program that students can access on a computer, a tablet, or even a smartphone. This program is for all students, kindergarten through fifth grade, and is to be completed each night for math homework. Students are asked to complete one session of approximately 10 minutes per night and will be notified when their session is over. For each night that the homework session is completed, an adult will initial 1 star on the Math Stars tracking sheet. Students return the sheet when it is full and they will get to spin a prize wheel. Your child’s teacher will be sending home an information sheet on how to login to the program at home.
Week of Respect
The week of October 7-11 is the Week of Respect. We have several fun filled spirit days that we are excited to have the students join us in. A flyer has been sent home and we have posted it on Dojo for your reference as well. We want to help our students spread kindness in different ways this week like it's confetti!
Monday- Wear your shirt backwards to remind everyone that we can't take back unkind words
Tuesday - Wear your favorite sport jersey to show we sport kindness everywhere we go
Wednesday - Pajama day to show we are comfortable being kind
Thursday - Wear leopard print OR bring a small stuffed animal to show our TEACHERS we are wild about them being so amazing
Friday - Wear BLUE to show that we are Upstanders to help others and being committed to kindness
We will be doing kindness lessons with our students in the classroom along with in class activities to promote student awareness regarding kindness in different ways as well. We appreciate all of you and all of our students!

REMINDERS
REMINDER: Read to Spin, Spin to Win!
All students (K-5) should be reading each night as part of their homework. Reading daily positively affects academic achievement, improves writing skills, stimulates creativity, and helps to build empathy. All minutes read should be recorded on the student's APPLE CORE bookmark. Once the bookmark is complete and turned in, students will have the opportunity to spin the prize wheel.
REMINDER: Cell Phones and Smart Watches
At Cozine, students are required to keep their personal communication devices off and in their backpacks during instructional hours. Students are permitted to use their phones before and after school. This aligns with District policy that helps prevent bullying, cyber bullying, unfiltered internet access, and cheating. If you have questions about this policy, please reach out to the office or school administration. At this time, we will not be using the signal blocking cell phone pouches at Cozine ES.
REMINDER: Parking at Cozine
Cozine has a small parking lot, and our lot is closed off to general traffic to keep our students safe as they walk to school. CCSD employees, school buses, and anyone holding a valid Handicapped Pass are permitted into our parking lot. Please see Cozine duty personnel if you fall into this category and need to enter the lot.
Also, to keep traffic patterns predictable for students that do walk, we allow traffic to enter our parking lot at the north entrance and exit through the south exit. Our staff enforces this to keep everyone safe, and we appreciate you helping them with this by following this pattern.
