1. Gov. JB Pritzker recently signed legislation creating a new Department of Early Childhood.
Public Act 103-0594 creates the Department of Early Childhood, a new state agency that will unite early childhood services under one roof, aiming to provide more accessible and more equitable service to families and providers. The Department of Early Childhood will assume administration of the Early Childhood Block Grant in July 2026. Once fully implemented, this new agency will make life simpler, better, and fairer for tens of thousands of Illinois families.
2. Public Act 103-0644 took effect July 1 and addresses a special education funding issue. The change establishes parity between private and public special education institutions by allowing claims for services provided by public entities. This enables school districts to be reimbursed for services provided by public school providers, just as private schools receive payment through mandated categorical line items.
3. U.S. Department of Education Awards More Than $1 Million in Grants to Develop Evidence-Based Models of Family Engagement and Improve Services to Children with Disabilities.
Extended School Year
We had another successful ESY. Thank you to our wonderful site supervisors, Karrie and Hannah for successfully leading our teams with all certified and noncertified staff. We are grateful to all who dedicated part of their summer to work with our students. There is nothing more amazing than watching teaching and learning while also having some fun. This year we registered 158 students with 95% attendance. We employed 95 certified and noncertified staff.
Once again, thank you to everyone! You are appreciated.💐
