Community Based Vocational Training
Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV
Community Based Vocational Training (CBVT)
Our goal is to provide community based vocational training to students with disabilities
to promote independence and increase work readiness skills.
Community Based Vocational Training provides students with the opportunities to acquire the skills needed for future employment and enables them to make informed decisions as they prepare for adult life.
Career development is a progression of activities and experiences in the transition planning process. It begins early and progresses through the stages of career awareness, vocational exploration, vocational assessment, vocational training, advanced preparation, and finally, entry level employment.
What we do....
- Offer and complete transition assessment to identify interest and abilities.
- Locate and develop appropriate community and vocational training sites.
- Collect information and data relating to the student's job experience.
- Provide on-site training and assistance to students in areas related to employment skills.
- Provide direct support and consultative services to students in the school and community setting.
Other benefits of CBVT.....
- Students learn real job skills in the actual work environment.
- Students are exposed to multiple work experiences and develop interests and learn skills.
- Students build a resume of job experiences to use when seeking paid employment.
- Quality of life is enhanced, by increasing community inclusion, independence and participation.
- Students discover their own abilities and skills in relation to the occupations under consideration.
- Students develop communication skills, self advocacy skills, employability skills, decision making skills and increase self awareness.
