A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF EQUITY AND DUAL PROGRAMS
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
This month we honor and celebrate the incredible contributions, traditions and backgrounds of our staff, students and community who represent our Hispanic and Latino culture and identity. Not only do we recognize several Independence days (including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Chile and Mexico) this month, but it is also a month to recognize that the fabric of our community continues to be woven with the rich and wonderful influence and impact of our Hispanic and Latino families, representing a multitude of countries, cultures and lived experiences. Please join me in expressing not only appreciation for Hispanic Heritage Month, but also a deep level of respect for our friends, colleagues and family who are part of this amazing tapestry. Let us remember this quote by Sonia Sotomaryo, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court," It is important for all of us to appreciate where we come from and how that history has really shaped us in ways that we might not understand."
Let's appreciate each other deeply, this month and every month!

Student Experiences at Into the Blue
"I am used to going out to the mountains with my family so it was fun to experience this with my friends and I am glad that we were able to bunk together. My favorite part was meeting new people, the different activity stations and the nature hike. During the bonfire each team was asked to sing karaoke and our team was assigned California Girls by Katy Perry. I think everyone should take time to enjoy the outdoors. It is calming and soothing to be out in nature and it's important for our overall health."~ Nathan Bell, WaHi Freshman
SELF-CARE
As fall comes our way, consider things like reading a good book, going for walks, spending time with friends you haven't seen in a while, crafting or exploring new hobbies. Spend this season paying attention to the things you genuinely enjoy doing and do them.
"Your individuality is important, but so is belonging. Recognize the parts of your culture that have shaped your past, and the parts you want to carry with you into the future.”- Sol Peralta
