Welcoming Schools
The School District of Haverford Township is committed to protecting the rights of all students regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Our district has several policies and practices in place to create a welcoming environment for those seeking help, assistance, information, and safety. You can find more information on our website's Welcoming Schools page, which includes information about our programs and the Welcoming Schools Resolution.
The Executive Order does not cut nor restrict funding, nor does it require the District to do anything. If and when the United States Department of Education issues guidance that applies to the District, then the District will review the guidance with our Solicitor to determine what actions, if any, are required. If any policy changes are proposed, they will be presented to the Board of School Directors for consideration at a public meeting.
Township Employees Erase Student Lunch Debt with Generous Donation
The dedicated employees of Haverford Township—those who keep the streets clean, the parks safe, and the community running smoothly—recently came together to make a significant impact. This year, they donated $10,000 to eliminate lunch debt for students in the School District of Haverford Township.
Township employees set aside five dollars from each paycheck into a shared fund. When the fund accumulated a surplus, they saw an opportunity to give back meaningfully.
They recognized that their community works hard, but many residents face challenging times. Some parents juggle multiple jobs, while others encounter unexpected hardships. No child should have to worry about affording a meal at school. Therefore, they decided to take action, using the funds to erase student lunch debt.
The best part? The children never had to know. They would not experience the burden of unpaid balances or the anxiety of going without lunch. All they knew was that their meal awaited them—just as it should be.
For the employees of Haverford Township, the reward is not in recognition or praise. It lies in knowing they did the right thing. In their own small way, they made their community a little bit better. Being part of Haverford isn’t just about working there; it’s about caring.
Empowering Perspectives: The Evolution and Impact of Women's Studies
HHS Students attend the ADL’s 18th Annual Youth Leadership Conference
The Haverford High School No Place for Hate club attended the ADL's Youth Leadership Conference at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on December 11th, joining over 400 students and 76 educators from 38 high schools.
The conference featured engaging workshops and a compelling keynote address by Dr. Jill Walsh, a sociology professor and digital advocacy researcher from Boston University. Dr. Walsh shared valuable insights from her research on youth development and emerging media, emphasizing the dangers of unchecked hate on the internet and its impact on young people's mental health.
Throughout the event, students collaborated on strategies to combat online hate, foster inclusivity, and promote allyship within their school and community. The experience empowered them with tools to take meaningful action in creating a more supportive and respectful environment.
High School Student DJs Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Local News Station
In an era dominated by streaming services and algorithm-driven playlists, a group of high school students at WHHS is proving that traditional radio still has the power to connect communities. Every week, these young DJs step into the booth, bringing fresh energy, new perspectives, and an undeniable passion for music. As the world of radio evolves, initiatives like this demonstrate that its future remains bright, with these students ensuring the airwaves continue to buzz with excitement, creativity, and a strong sense of community.
Please enjoy the slideshow of pictures from the field trip that the student DJs of WHHS 99.9 FM took to the KWY News Radio Station @ Audacy Entertainment Center, @ 24th & Market St., Philadelphia, PA.
School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive
National School Counseling Week 2025, “School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from Feb. 3–7, 2025, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
Wellness Day at Haverford Middle School
On Friday, January 17th, Haverford Middle School students embraced Wellness Day, a refreshing break filled with engaging activities designed to promote relaxation, creativity, and teamwork.
Students enjoyed a diverse lineup of activities, including shrink art, yoga, playground games, coloring, bracelet making, and even a latte-crafting session led by Dr. Horan.
For eighth graders, the day also provided an important academic opportunity as they met with Haverford High School's counseling team to discuss course selections for the upcoming year. Meanwhile, seventh graders brought their competitive spirit to a lively Family Feud-style competition, where teams went head-to-head—and even teachers joined in for a round of fun!
Wellness Day was a memorable and meaningful experience, encouraging students to unwind, connect, and prepare for the next steps in their academic journey.
Honoring the Dream: A Day of Service and Community Action for MLK Day
Although the weather was not very cooperative on Monday, January 20th, students, staff, and families across the District engaged in various activities to honor Dr. King's life and work throughout the week. Chatham Park organized a service project to collect food and goods for donation to local food pantries. Coopertown coordinated donations of diapers, wipes, bottles, sippy cups, baby soap, diaper rash cream, and baby lotion for Grands Stepping Up, a non-profit organization that supports children living in households headed by grandparents or other relatives in Pennsylvania. Lynnewood continued its long-standing tradition of providing home-cooked meals to members of our local community in need. At Manoa, students had the opportunity to engage in various community service projects. They made cards for Westgate Nursing Home, created dog toys for Mainline Animal Rescue, crafted bracelets for patients at the Helen F. Graham Cancer and Research Institute, and designed placemats for Cathedral Kitchen. Additionally, they contributed to the "Welcome to Manoa" packet for new students and their families and assembled Blessing Bags for The Kensington Project.
Will you be in 6th or 9th grade in 2025? Residency Verification begins 3/1
Since 2023, the District has required verification of continued residency in the township and confirmation of contact information for fifth (5th) and eighth (8th) grade students who plan to attend Haverford Middle School and Haverford High School in September 2025.
In accordance with Board policy #200, Enrollment of Students, the District requires each student’s residency to be verified by parents/guardians or other adults with whom the student resides prior to June 30, 2025.
Families can submit their verification documents through their PowerSchool parent account (PowerSchool Parent Accounts) starting March 1, 2025.
Each student verification requires two (2) acceptable documents, as outlined in the policy, in their entirety with the address and name(s) clearly indicated. Examples of acceptable documents include:
Deed
Settlement Statement
Current Lease Agreement
Current Property Tax Bill
Current Utility Bill
Current Credit Card Bill
PennDOT Identification Card
Documentation submitted by families will be reviewed for authenticity and accuracy beginning in May and continuing through June. Once your child’s documents have been verified, confirmation will be communicated through your PowerSchool parent/guardian account. Failure to verify residency and contact information by June 30th may result in the initiation of a nonresident student removal proceeding in accordance with Board Policy 202.
If you encounter a problem during the process please contact your building administrative assistant.

February Cultural Connection
Black History Month: 2025 Theme: African Americans and Labor
Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Present:
Let’s Honor: In 1926, Carter G. Woodson established Negro History Week. The celebration highlighted Black Americans' history, lives, and contributions. Woodson, an African American historian who graduated with a Ph.D. from Harvard, founded the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). The ASALH now leads nationwide Black History Month celebrations and establishes its themes.
Let’s Celebrate: Dr. Jean Augustine is known as the Mother of Black History Month in Canada for establishing the celebrations in 1995. Just like in the U.S., celebrations occur in February. Black History Month takes place in October throughout the Netherlands, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. While the U.K.'s initial focus was on Black American history, the country now focuses on celebrating Black British history.
Did You Know:
The 2025 Black History Month theme, African Americans, and Labor, focuses on the various and profound ways that work and working of all kinds – free and unfree, skilled, and unskilled, vocational and voluntary – intersect with the collective experiences of Black people.
Black History Month happens in February for good reason. Woodson selected February in honor of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln's birth dates.
