Kevin Brennan, Director, Special Education
Congratulations Kevin Brennan, Director, Special Education
The Yakima School District is proud to announce the selection of Kevin Brennan as Director of Special Education Services, effective July 1, 2024.
Kevin Brennan has spent the last year at Stanton Academy as an Assistant Principal. He spent the previous two years as the Special Services Instructional Coordinator for the West Valley School District. Before that, Kevin spent 23 years in the classroom, four years as a resource room teacher in the Sunnyside School District and West Valley School District, and 19 years as a Social Studies teacher at West Valley High School. Mr. Brennan led the implementation of College in the High School courses through the University of Washington, Central Washington University, and Eastern Washington University while also teaching Advanced Placement Government. Kevin is a huge proponent of collaborative practices, as evidenced by his work with a fellow ELA instructor in creating an American Studies course incorporating ELA and Social Studies standards.
Kevin earned his Bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University in History, with an endorsement in Special Education. He then earned his Master's Degree in History with a focus on the Cold War, Civil Rights/Social Movements, and the Revolutionary War Era. While serving as special services instructional coordinator, Mr. Brennan earned administrative credentials through Heritage University.
As special services instructional coordinator for the West Valley School District, Kevin has been an integral part of the Inclusionary Practices Project. In that capacity, Mr. Brennan was part of the team that oversaw the increased inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education setting. He is a champion of inclusive and equitable reforms for all students and, as a classroom teacher, incorporated Culturally Responsive Instruction to ensure that all students saw themselves in what they were learning.
Mr. Brennan spent this past school year at Stanton Academy working alongside Principal Natalie Riley as Assistant Principal. He enjoyed building strong relationships with staff, students, and community members. He expressed how amazing the staff and students are at Stanton, and is grateful for the opportunity to work under the strong leadership of Principal Riley.
Kevin is very excited to join the SES team and continue to champion inclusive and equitable reforms.
Kevin is one of seven children who grew up in the Yakima Valley. He shares his love of education with his wife, Tori Brennan, principal of Barge-Lincoln Elementary. He and Tori are devoted parents to two beautiful daughters, Tai (22) and Marli (18).
