2nd Grade Learns About the Earth's Surface
This week, the Mark Twain 2nd graders completed their first Science experiment. In Social Studies, we learned about Earth’s surface features. We learned about landforms and bodies of water. In Science, we extended that knowledge and learned, “What would happen if you floated down a river, where would you end up?” We made a model of a mountain and then sprayed the mountain with water. We observed as the water ran down the mountain. The class worked cooperatively in groups and had a fun time experimenting. Keep up the great work 2nd Graders, YOU ROCK!
Restorative Practice Training
Twain noon aides and support staff were recently trained in the use of restorative practices District personal, Kristina Madeleine & Lisa Pettyes, trained staff on the use of the practices to address recess behavior and strengthen student relationships. We are thankful for our staff's dedication to this district initiative.
Why Restorative Practices?
In schools, the use of Restorative Practices has been found to:
• Reduce misbehavior, violence, and bullying,
• Increase instructional time & academic achievement
• Increase school safety
• Decrease suspensions
• Improve attendance
• Improve school climate
• Improve relationships & attitudes
What Are Restorative Practices?
Restorative Practices emphasize the importance of positive relationships for building community and repairing relationships when harm has occurred. Cultivating empathy is a key focus.
While we aim to help students avoid behaviors that lead to serious consequences by teaching them to understand how their actions impact others, restorative practices do not always take the place of consequences. Our Student Code of Conduct still applies.

Mark Twain will be selling Texas Roadhouse gift cards just in time for the holidays! Packets were sent home last week.
The window for this fundraiser will conclude on Monday, December 2nd. Students should return their order forms and money prior to this date. Gift cards will be returned to the school the following week and distributed to families.
This is a prepaid fundraiser, so please be sure to collect full payment for each gift card your child sells. Use the provided envelope to track and hold the payment for your orders. Don't forget to write the student's name and teacher in the space provided on the envelope.
Everyone loves Texas Roadhouse, so selling gift cards is easy and they make the perfect gifts for the holidays. These gift cards are accepted at all locations, over 800 nationwide, and never expire or lose value. Gift cards may also be used at our sister store, Bubba's 33!
Gift cards are available in the following denominations: $5 to $100 amounts.
Cash is ideal so the school can get a faster return, but if you would like to write a check instead: Make all checks payable to: Mark Twain Parent Club.

Our lost & found is overflowing. Items will be outside placed the office/media center this week for students to reclaim items. Items remaining on Tuesday, November 26th will be donated to goodwill. Please encourage your child to check for missing items.
Twain Parking Lot Reminders
The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.
