We have added lots of information this week about upcoming events. The 3rd nine weeks will be wrapping up soon so please reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions about their academics.

This is just a reminder to RSVP if you plan to attend our Family-STEM Night on March 15th. We want to make sure we have enough food for all of our families. More details are listed below.

Blair is celebrating Read Across America next week. We are having guest readers from the county office, Laney High School and other special people in each classroom. We will also be having book trivia each morning on the announcements. We want our students to celebrate the enjoyment of reading and sharing books with each other.

On Wednesday, March 2 we will be having a book character parade in the morning. Students are encouraged to dress as a favorite book character and share their books in a parade around the school. Be creative with your ideas. There is no need to buy a costume. Many book characters can be reproduced with things you have at home. Come by the library for some ideas and to get a book! It is a great week to share your favorite childhood book with your family.

We wanted to provide you with some information regarding our upcoming Family-STEM Night which will be held on Tuesday, March 15th from 5:00-7:00pm.

The main focus for this night is to provide students with engaging classroom STEM activities and Robotic stations. Here are some of the amazing activities that will be available to our students and families:

• Paint with Spheros

• Color Code with Ozobots

• Complete Design Challenges

• Experiment with Virtual and Augmented Reality

We will split this event into two sessions and food will be provided to our families. Please see the following schedule below. We ask that you stick to this schedule to prevent large gatherings and students not having sufficient time at the different activities.

K - 2nd Grade

3rd - 5th Grade

STEM Events (6:00 - 7:00pm)

Due to the school providing food, we need to be able to determine how many we will have in attendance that night. Please RSVP using the link below so that we will be better prepared. Only 1 submission required per family.

Along with Blair Staff, we will also have STEM students from Laney High School on campus that night assisting with our activities. This would be a great opportunity to ask them questions about the STEM program at Laney.

New Hanover County Schools in cooperation with Coastal Horizons will begin offering free rapid testing at the four traditional high schools for symptomatic students and staff regardless of student or staff’s school assignment. Any student or staff can present at any of the following locations for a test. The schedule will be as follows:

Monday - Hoggard High School (9-11) - Testing will be conducted in Breezeway

Tuesday - New Hanover High School (9-11) – Testing will be conducted in front of the lobby of the NHHS WHAT Clinic – 13th & Dock St

Wednesday - Laney (9-11) - Testing will be conducted in Breezeway

Thursday - Ashley (9-11) - Testing will be conducted backside of building between the cafeteria and gymnasium

Friday - Coastal Horizons WHAT Clinic 4005 Oleander Dr. (9-11)

**The times listed are subject to change based on staff availability**

In order to be tested, the student must be accompanied by a parent and/or have the COVID 19 Testing Packet documentation filled out and signed by the parent/legal guardian. You can access and download the COVID Testing Consent Packet here.

What does it mean to be a Title 1 School?

The Title 1 Program is the largest federally funded educational program in the country. Funds are provided to support schools with 40% or more low-income students. Low-income students are determined by the total number of students enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program.

What is the main focus of Title 1?

Title 1 schools in New Hanover County are "school-wide” Title 1 schools. This means

that the focus is helping ALL students and ensuring that they are provided equitable opportunities in order to meet the high standards expected of ALL children.

How can funds be used at Title 1 Schools?

The following are examples how schools can use Title 1 funds: improve curriculum, instructional activities, parental involvement, program improvement, and to increase staff support.

The 2021-2022 vision for the district is that all schools in New Hanover County will meet or exceed growth. This school year, we have adopted the saying WIN THE DAY. This thought process will look very different for each individual, but our focus is showing a 1% growth each day for our students and staff. Our School Improvement Plan will be developed and implemented around this concept. With the end goal in mind, we believe that setting small goals and focusing on the process will give us the best opportunity to meet those expectations.

Please remember to have your Blair parking decal visible and hanging from your rear view mirror. A lot of our staff recognize the vehicles but on days we have other staff out there, this will help speed up our dismissal process. If you do not have one or yours is starting to fade, please let us know and we will be happy to provide another to you.
